Mmm, a matter of taste again. ;-)
First off all I think Alanis is a gifted, beautiful singer/songwriter.
I think ‘Joining You’ is one of the most beautiful songs she’s made.
But I wouldn’t go out and buy an album of her, simple because I’ve heard all her singles a MILLION times. I think I’ve been overdosed by her music in a non-positve way. I must blame the media for this. I think music is something that you’re longing for and listen to it when you need it the most. It’s the same with Anouk for example. The media hypes these women sooo much that It’s starting to bother me.
That’s just the way I am.
Especially because they get so much credit for just releasing ONE fuckin’ album. (They both made two now).
And no, Alanis & Anouk are not the first women out there.
Patti Smith, Heather Nova, Tori Amos, PJ Harvey, Kate Bush…etc
deserve just more credit I suppose…

I don’t like her. Words to the song ‘Ironic’. Absolutely none of the things she sings about are ironic. ‘It’s like rain on you’re wedding day, it’s the free ride, when you’ve already paid’ etc. etc.Yeah, the situations are really unfortunate, but they’re not ironic. I think that’s amusing, it’s a stupid song and I don’t like it. It should’ve been called ‘fairly unfortunate’. Isn’t it fairly unfortunate, don’t ya think? It’s like…’

i dunno what country youre from opalmantra but in ireland, alanis isn’t exactly always in the media hype!

Yo, T-Kicker…Alanis is NOT a bad artist, really I’ve heard really worse. I’d say ‘Joining You’, ‘Uninvited’ are great songs. And I judge her only because of the singles that came out here (Holland it is). The thing that really bothers me is that ‘Joining You’ was released as a single here but it NEVER became a hit and was only played for a week or so. ;-(
So I think I have to back you up on this one.
Oh, and I like The Bangles a lot…(really!)

i have to say, alanis was a lot better than she is now. i have a live concert just after jagged little pill was released and it was just brilliant. i probably got caught up in the atmosphere, you know, hearing her live. i bought supposed former infatuation junkie and i dont think its as good as jagged little pill(its still really good though)

I think her stuff is pretty good. I remember when I was just a wee nipper and my cousin used to play an Alanis tape in her car all the time.

That’s possibly why I like her.

My brother refers to her as “Alan Morris” which is about the only interesting thing you can say about the bloody woman.

I get force fed Alan Morriss at work from time to time. It’s Alanis Morissette, Starbucks Unplugged CD. The only thing relating to Alanis Morissette that I want to see unplugged is her life support machine.

Simple, but good pop, decent lyrics (definitly amongst the best in popular music). She’s alright. I won’t scorn her, I won’t praise her… much. Liked her in Dogma.
