Seems that we have a lot of Dutch people and T? fnas from Belgium in here…

(Before changing the message boards’ software in August 2007 this discussion contained a poll, which may return in the future)

Title: Ireland

Speaking of which, why do people (English especially) refer to Ireland as Eire? The Gaelic word is Eireann, people! Also, people always call us the “Republic of Ireland”. Now I know this statement is correct, but do people go round saying “Principality of Denmark”? Sorry, just one of those little things that irks me!!

One more thing, why was I the only person from Ireland to vote! C’mon, I know there’s more. Jobrok, I’m looking in your direction! Also, Barnabus… Che Guevara … let’s get this fuckin poll goin’ in the right direction!!!

Hi Alan.
I’ve always wondered why people have to translate everything into their own language. For example, the Danes call their country DANMARK but we (English) call it DENMARK. Why?
I think it’s a bit of an insult.
BTW, I’ve always called Ireland, Ireland.
I mean some people over here call it “The Republic” and I’m like…err, “which one mate, there’s more than 1 Republic on planet Earth” :-)
