Yes… the last 3 Wildheart releases have been a b-sides collection and 2 live albums… maybe they should consider recording something new (fingers crossed)

Hi,
Quite a bit of news from Ginger to report following the successful completion of the UK tour. Ginger has been in the studio from July 17th recording his new solo album (not to be confused with the next Ginger and the Sonic Circus album).
Says Ginger: “The album I’m recording is my new solo album. I don’t want to reveal the title yet, just in case I change my mind. It will feature new drummer Denzel Pearson on drums, and Jon Poole (who else?) on Bass. Jase Edwards will be involved in production / engineering / recording as well as playing guitar. Tim Smith will be producing. Watch this space for more details on this, and the forthcoming Howling Willie Cunt album, ‘World Of Filth’.”
Ginger and the Sonic Circus hope to record a separate album this year, and Ginger has also mentioned the possibility of the Wildhearts starting work on a new record before the year is out.
For anyone who was hoping to catch Ginger and the Sonic Circus at the Gosforth Gathering, this event has unfortunately been cancelled - please see: http://www.gosforthgathering.com/ for further details, including ticket refund information.
There is a Wildhearts live album ‘Geordie In Wonderland’ being released 24th July, recorded at the Scarborough ‘Rock In
The Castle’ Festival, which will be available from various online retailers including:

Hmm, does this live album smell of contractual obligation? I wasn’t there sadly but it sounded like the day was a bit of a let down when it should have been amazing: Ginger with injured finger not being able to play his best, quite a short set without any huge surprises. It would have been great if theyd been able to do a big sprawling set with loads of interesting tunes for the no doubt hardcore crowd they had. Not sure whether to pick this up or not, and I am a bit of a wildhearts devotee. Probably worth it to hear the version of Geordie though.

Talking of the Wildhearts, there seems to be a few different “best of” compilations around, any recommendations as to which is the best?

It wasn’t a bad gig - the major problem was how cold everyone was when they went on stage. Album is pretty good - can’t help singing along to a lot of the stuff on there.

I tried compiling my own “best of” set it took 3 CDs and I had to leave some good stuff off! Geordie in Wonderland is as good a place as any to start it covers whole career from 1992-2005

Yeah it’s pretty good - quite tuneful and melodic as opposed to the more distorted heavy stuff from the late nineties.
Earth Vs The Wildhearts
The Wildhearts Must Be Destroyed
Don’t Be Happy, Just Worry
Probably in that order would be my recommendation. A lot of folk will suggest p.h.u.q because it was their commercial peak, but those 3 are all better to be honest. (and probaby in the bargain bin at our price)

There’s only one real “best of”, the rest are sort of compilations from record companies and such (if there’s a difference!!!)
