OCFA - Best Album

#

Started by Zorn

Can’t believe the negativity surrounding this album. I honestly think it’s superb.

With the risk of being controversial, if you don’t like the record and therefore the band, MOVE ON, you’re not a fan anymore.

Zorn.

What UTTER BOLLOCKS Zorn. I love this band just as much as anyone; shame OCFA didn’t do it for me.

Therapy? make every album unique. Now thats a good thing but because they have been going for so long not every fan will like every album. Its NOT cos your a fan anymore its just your own personal tatse. I love this album. It took a couple of listens to it and there are thing like the Mix on Andys voice which I hate but play the songs live and its a different story.

I am a fan. I’ve spent thousands on this band I love.. But its not their best album

Agree the opening post is rubbish. I am still a fan, a very big fan. And I am incredibly disappointed by OCFA. I am however glad that other people do like it, of course. But it doesn’t rattle my bones.

Saying someone’s not a fan anymore when they don’t adore the newest album might work with some bands, but clearly not Therapy?

If everyone who didn’t like Semi-Detatched stopped liking the band, the fancount would be almost halved. If everyone who didn’t think Suicide Pact, Shameless (!) or High Anxiety was awesome stopped being able to apreciate the band on a whole or have chances of liking subsequent releases the fanbase would be restricted to a couple of thousand die-hards, nothing more.

Therapy? doesn’t follow a single concrete road head on, they kind of stagger about like a drunk lunatic. I rather think that’s brilliant.

Jeez! Sorry all, and I know it’s an old discussion for me to bring up/answer at this stage, but the thoughts expressed here by some T? fans are interesting.

To me, OCFA has some really great songs and some slightly worse production values (especially regarding the drums). I also really like SP-YF, but not every single track. Etc etc for all T?-albums; one persons’ beer is another’s piss. Sort of…

Am I thus a disbeliever, a heretic or what (ie not fanatically approving of all the tunes T?’s written over the years)? Probably. Maybe…

But who cares; we’re all here because of our liking/loving of T? To me, that is what really matters! :D

Best wishes,
PerPer

Yes but we’re back to “proper” Therapy? now.

I’ve just copied an old post I made when this topic came up before…

Therapy? were never a heavy metal band but they were teetering dangerously close on HA and NANE. Plus there’s no wanky throw-away tracks like “My Voodoo Doll” or “Rock You Monkeys” on OCFA.

Even reading through the meanings behind the songs shows they’re back to their best - tracks that tackle schizophrenia, alcoholism, a schoolgirl’s murder etc that you can sing along and nod your head to - that’s what caucasian psychosis, nurse, troublegum etc were all about. Dark as f**k topics buried under bouncey melody. Even all those literary references after the lyrics shows (to me) that Andy’s got his thinking cap screwed on tight here.

So far OCFA is the only T? album I wouldn’t skip a track on (not counting Babyteeth as an album). Cheers!

What an absolutely stupid comment…!!!

That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read on WoM.

If you don’t like the album! That’s fine. Don’t fucking listen to it. Nobody’s forcing you.

So some T? fans aren’t as impressed by OCFA as other T? releases. SO WHAT??? THERAPY? have been slogging away at it for over 15 years. So they didn’t match up to YOUR expactations this time. Well they did match up to most other T? fans expectations.

Now give it fucking rest about how shit YOU think OCFA is.
We’ve read it all a hundred times already on this forum from the same handful of people who keep dredging it up.
All you’re doing is shit stirring.

I like the production, it sounds very similar to the hardcore bands of the late 80’s. and i think t? wanted the sound they got as they actually recorded the album onto tapes instead of computers if i remeber correctly.

This is also bollocks.

Therapy were equal parts metal and punk on Troublegum, and I think most people will agree that this album makes up a big part of their sound.

i think so. Obviously you can’t call Cradle of Filth just a rock band. Just the image alone means they are going to appeal to a certain type of person.
Maybe the Wildhearts too? they are rock n roll with a bit of punk, metal riffs thrown in and a bit of 12 bar blues.
