Alive 2 is better shot and the sound is better in a way, as more money has been spent on it. It certainly makes the original line sound a hell of a lot heavier! Also some nice extras.

Cool. I do think the older tracks suffer from the 80’s thinner production, but then I am a real sucker for the kind of bright, modern production you tend to get these days.

I think …MASS DESTRUCTION is better than ALIVE2.

But that’s just because I prefer John Bush to Joey.

It’s kinda strange with ANTHRAX. I prefer the line-up with John Bush, but Persistance Of Time is my favourite ANTHRAX album.

Ah! well! They’re both excellent DVD’s.

I prefer the Bush albums to the Belladonna era. I have now seen both live and We have come for you all tour was one of the most metal (and mental) gigs i have been to the crowd went ape shit! The reunion tour was cool to see and hear some songs that they had stopped playing but joey doesn’t control the crowd as much, but he does put in a lot of energy which the corwd does respond to. It just didn’t leave me with the same huge grin i had when i saw them with bush.

But both DVDs are worth owning.:)

right peeps, i’ve finally watched Metallicas some kind of monster.

Having lost interest in them following the black album can anyone tell me what their stuffs been like since? Is St Anger worth getting?

NO

It is worth listening to out of interest, definitely “interesting”, but not what you may call “good”.

Approach with caution.

I personally think Load and Reload have some good stuff on them (and some shit too :D ) and are more like the Black album (in sound at least, if not in songwriting) than St Anger.

PS What did you think of SKOM?

EDIT: PS thanks folks for the opinions on the Anthrax DVD’s

Well i like it:) the songs could do with some trimming. BUt in general i thought it was a very good album.. i know not many people agree. The production got a lot of stick but after years of over produced bands i quite like the raw difference. I also didn’t mind load… reload was a bit shit. I think they could have made one quite good album if they chosen songs off both. Get the garage inc cd its fucking great!

Agree with Divers on the Load/ Reload woulda made one good album theory, also Garage Inc is DEF worth a purchase, no question.

seriously? Garage inc always looked like a cop out to me. And its got whiskey in the jar on it!!! You’re winding me up aintcha??

Oh and Den i loved SKOM. You aint seen nothing til you’ve seen hetfield all speccy and dungarees talking abot his feelings ot a councillor.

Other fave bit: EVERYONE saying they like St Anger as a title, only for ego-boy ulrich to go “no, i think frantic is better”.

@Dan

No serious, the first cd’s is pretty cool… but the second cd is worth it on its own!

Heh heh true!

I think in both cases the albums are guilty of having all the good ones more or less lumped together at the start.

Whilst they aren’t great albums, I think they were overlooked more down to their change in image in terms of what they were wearing/ haircuts more than any massive shift in sound between the Black album and Load.
And at the time Metal was a dirty word in music…though ironically these are the least Metal Metallica albums.

When load came out i thought it was cool, a bit of a change but i didn’t mind it. Their live shows were fucking amazing round this time… i saw them in the birmingham NEC with the whole changing stage and burning men thing it was great and harmfully loud. They finished With Damage Case:D

Yeah, the Cunning Stunts DVD of that tour is pretty good and they really were on form as a live band at the time, weren’t they?

Talking of Damage Case, have you seen the Boneshaker: 25 and Alive DVD were Lemmy says at the end of that song “If anyone asks you who fucked that song up, tell them it was me”..?

Cos for the life of me I can’t spot the bit that he fucks up…

Dennis wrote:

To be honest, if you have Stage Fright, I’d not bother with Boneshaker, as the set list is too similar, really.
The sound ain’t great (compressed in a funny way so the drums are barely audible in places, especially the toms) and the guest spots really spoil the show (The guy from Ugly Kid Joe and Doro Pesch singing Born To Raise Hell are particularly annoying).

There is a great acoustic version of I Ain’t No Nice Guy, but you can find that on Youtube anyway and ain’t worth the price of the DVD on its own.

Stick with Stage Fright, mate!

D’oh, so it is! My bad.

Actually, looking at it, the set list IS quite different to Stage Fright…but the overall performance comes across very similar, not different enough to make it a worthwhile purchase..

Stage Fright pretty much superceded Boneshaker, which many of the fans (and Mikkey Dee, if not the rest of the band) were disappointed with.
