Why do you never listen?

@Allroy - I would have liked to see that! :D I think the best gig I have been to in the last 10 years was Leatherface / HWM - because they are all friends it just made for a fantastic atmosphere, and at the end of the gig they all piled on stage together, including the first support act and sang whatever they felt like. :)

I would have given anything to see Jawbreaker before they broke up though. Including my firstborn …

(Sorry Hooch, but a line has to be drawn somewhere :p)

I also missed out on Jawbreaker and would also trade Hooch for a chance to see them live. :D

Let’s be honest, you’d trade Hooch for a nice refreshing drink on a hot day. Or a warm day. :p

Also I should mention the obvious of Sunny Day Real Estate, The Get Up Kids, Braid and so on…
And on the newer emo front, Glassjaw were pretty great, although unfortunately between them and Thursday they spawned stuff like Funeral For A Friend. :(

Funeral for a friend arent brilliant but theyre not as bad as some of the stuff out there, at least they have slight talent unlike bands like hawthrone hieghts.

funny that i am reading this thread and ‘Do You Like Me?’ from FVGAZIs ‘Red Medicine Album’ comes on my mp3 player!

also love glassjaw (when you say WERE great do you mean they are no more?) and ATDI. am fairly ignorant of rites of spring, embrace etc although did used to have the dischord 3 disc box set. my exgirlfriend has it now

I’m actually going to be a petty little bastard and suggest that both Fugazi and At The Drive-In are post-hardcore and not emo. Not that the genres don’t run pretty close at times, but yeah.

These Arms Are Snakes also come highly recommended.

And everyone should check out a song called To Buy A Gun by Idiot Pilot… it runs like a cross between Glassjaw and Knives Out by Radiohead. Shame most of their other material is cack.

Re: Idiot Pilot

Went to see them about a year or so ago in Sheffield after hearing To Buy A Gun, they played to no more than a dozen people but still put on a really good show. We took them out for a kebab afterwards :D nice guys. Their album is about 50% filler but the good tunes are awesome and their live show is impressive.

Here are a few more recommendations who haven’t been mentioned yet, and which songs you might want to check out:
Texas Is The Reason - Back And To The Left, If It’s Still Here When We Get Back It’s Ours, The Magic Bullet Theory, Johnny On The Spot
Gameface - My Star, The Pirate Song, Sweet Wreck, The Warmest Heart Attack, Laughable
Q And Not U - So Many Animal Calls, Line In The Sand, Black Plastic Bag, Hooray For Humans, Soft Pyramids
Far - Bury White, What I’ve Wanted To Say, Punchdrunk, Mother Mary, Wear It So Well
Red Animal War - Starter, Jambalaya, 77, When Fat Pigs Fly, Backbreaker
Shades Apart - Fearless, Getting Over It, Cathode, Trying To Remember
Ruth Ruth - Julia You Have No Heartbeat, Uninvited, Brave Girl, Pervert, Jerome
Planes Mistaken For Stars - Copper And Stars, Blinders, Division, Staggerswallowswell

I used to like Leiah. a lot, a swedish emocore band, I don’t think they’re still around. I lost interest in 2002 but the albums that got released before that date are realy worth checking out, especially The Tigra Songs!

And yet as one door closes, another opens - keep your ears open for ‘The sWord’… saw them last night and they were f**king brilliant! And now I have the CD, which was only £3 and certainly the best £3 I ever spent! Or it would have been if I had paid for it, but I persuaded the man in my life to be a gentleman and buy it for me :)

They were supporting ‘The Steal’ - pure hardcore, and ‘Lifetime’ who were very very good, and the atmosphere was amazing - but for me ‘The sWord’ stole the show. Think ‘Against Me’ but cheaper, younger and better looking! :D

Amazing night. Amazing bands. :)
