Crowbar

#

Started by Dennis

Read an article on them in Metal Hammer and then put two and two together that there’s a link between them and Down, and I have checked out some stuff on Youtube that seems quite interesting..so..

Any Crowbar fans here, and if so, where should a novice start?

I like the Sabbathy kind of sludgy riffing, but I like the more melodic side of this kind of music, rather than the more shouty side of things, if that helps…?

:( God that makes me sound like a right knob!

Anyway, Crowbar - discuss:

I have never heard any of their stuff, I know Phil from down/pantera produced some of their albums. A friend of mine rates them and they have always had good reviews, so i should check them out at one point.

Check some of the videos out on Youtube, mate. Sound a bit like Down but with a lesser singer, to me.

Down and Crowbar sound different. I’ve only just got back into Crowbar, and Down are more blues based. Best thing about Crowbar is that their songs are simple.

The outro part to “Bury Me In Smoke” is probably the closest DOWN get sounding like CROWBAR.

You should check out the latest CROWBAR album, “Lifesblood For The Downtrodden”. A great fuckin slab of immense, sludgey doom riffs that only Kirk Windstein can write.

Plus the original drummer(with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY for few years now) joined him to record it. And PANTERA’s Rex Brown played bass and produced it.

As for other albums. The early stuff is good but a little rough. The later albums are consistent though.

ODD FELLOWS REST
EQUILIBRIUM
SONIC EXCESS IN ITS PUREST FORM

All killer albums.

all of those albums jobrock mentioned are great. SONIC EXCESS and ODD FELLOWS REST are the masterpieces in my opinion. “lasting dose” and “planets collide” are two of my all time favourite songs.

the link between down and crowbar is not only that phil anselmo produced the selt-titled crowbar album, it’s much more kirk windstein, who’s the mastermind behind crowbar, and he’s also been a member of down ever since. plus, the first bass-player for down, todd “sexy t” strange, was a member of crowbar for a long time …

I saw that they are going to re-release the first down album with rex now playing the bass parts, so they don’t have to pay royaltys to the first bloke.

seems a bit pointless?

With all this talk about them, I think I’m going to have to go on a CROWBAR binge for a few days. Dig out some of the CD’s and give them a few spins.

“Lasting Dose”… What a fantastic tune.

The riff just hits you like a artic truck going 100 mph.

Absolutely CRUSHING…!!!!

You might also wanna check out “Southern Whiskey Rebellion”. They’re from Louisiana too and have some sludgy riffs going on…
