Tatty, where did it say they were doing this just for the ‘real fans’? And what exactly is a ‘real fan’? Therapy? are doing this for whoever wants to listen to them, hopefully attracting some new folks along the way.

I know what you mean. I know they need money to do things like that.
You are right, everybody has his own definition of a “true fan” but i think after recieving the similiar posts at the last voting poll they shouldn´t have just put every hit song in the list to vote for. If they know, that they pissed of some of us, they could have been doing a compromise. That would have been just not all of the regular hit songs and more of the others to vote for. Cause they knew that the hits would be voted for. So everybody would have been happy.
I am not the only one, that is disappointed here.
But i think emotional arguments are not good arguments. So i will do a poll myself to see what wombles think of the webgig votings.

Title: Well…

I’m sorry to say it, but the set list is a bit of a downer… good to see the Semi-Detached era stuff there, though. Will buy it just for new renditions of Suing God and Straight Life. Methinks the voting should just have been amongst us WOMbles. It might have been a lot more diverse.

On an unrelated topic, that perhaps may result in a lot of abuse for being on the wrong thread, what does everyone think the next single should be? A Sprung/Walk Through Darkness double A-side would be kewl. Especially if they re-recorded Kids’ Stuff at the web gig session and put it on as a B-side… hint, hint, wishful thinking…

I’m gonna shut up now. :p

Suing God is on there I am very happy. Besides I don’t see the problem of having screamager or nowhere on there. Yes we’ve heard it a thousand times before but remember that they are some people’s favourite songs and they don’t get tired of it. Plus this gig will be available to a wider audience then before so some of the classics should be on there. It’s selfish to insist on an obscure track listing, you’ve got Suing God and Evil Elvis, be happy!

Well you sort of would have to imagine it as they weren’t down as choices.:D

Also you have to remember this is their First sort of Official Live album and you can’t really have one without Screamager on it.:)

But I’m happy, some different songs on it:)

I was fighting the urge not to say anything, but it didn’t work, so here are my 2 cents on all this commotion over the setlist:

I have been a T? fan for half of my life. They have changed my life in so many ways, and I’m extremely grateful for that. I buy their records, because I want to hear with what they have come up this time. I go to their concerts, because I like the atmosphere. I do all this because I am a fan.

In return of my valuable time spend on them, i would like to have as many opportunities to see them live as I can, a lot of new music, dvd’s, other things. That is what I feel that they owe me : good music, good times. And the setlist is packed with good music, so why are there so many complaints? I don’t understand

Imagine the set if the people who wanted the obscure stuff had their way, the set would probably be:

God Kicks
Hypermania
Don’t Expect Roses
You Are My Sunshine !!!
30 Seconds
Gone
DLC
The Photon remix of Isolation
Panic!
Unconsoled

Which would be cool in its obscurity but useless as an enjoyable listening experience.

One of my votes got in so Im happy anyway!

Wasn’t there a cd version of Scopophobia? But I think this is going to be a different sort of experience anyway. I’m not sick of the ‘same old’ songs like a lot of people, but it would have been nice to make th emost of the opportunity to hear the other stuff. Like, perhaps, just one of the songs I voted for. ;)

Yes! there could have been a few more oddball songs. But it was a vote. The fairest way for all fans, WoMbles and non-WoMbles, to pick a setlist. Why should someone who may have just happened to hear about this gig, but hasn’t heard any recent T? songs pick songs they don’t know.
T? were very popular around TROUBLEGUM and a lot of people may have voted only knowing some of those songs.

Look at it this way! Everyone is entitled to vote. But what you think are the best choices may not always win.

I mean! G.W.Bush was elected president of the U.S. Twice!!!
Just proves that it doesn’t always go the way you may want it

No! Ridiculous idea! Not much of a poll if its relegated to only being accessed by the select few is it?!

Its like that fool Blair doing something for the ENTIRE COUNTRY for the Millenium. Then building a tent and a ferris wheel…in FUCKING LONDON!!!!!!!

On a personal level, i’m dissapointed that there arnt many diverse choices on the setlist, its a shame as its probably the only chance we’ll ever get to pick the setlist. Its also a shame that there arnt newer songs on there, if it is being used as a tool to try and expand the fanbase then just playing the same troublegum songs is an opportunity missed.

Maybe they could do a count of just the WoMble votes. And record 2 or 3 extra tracks that were voted for most by us and didn’t make it onto the 12 song setlist.

this is a good idea if only because 12 songs doesn’t seem long enough in the first place… you know there will be more room on an 80 minute disc for more songs, and this really rewards the WoMbles without taking away from the rest of the voters…

i know it’s not gonna happen, just saying it is a good idea…

Good point Mister Ginger5 but we can still see them touring the new songs right now, its a better incentive to go see them i think, than putting the songs on the live CD.
But i agree, SOMETHING from the new album should be on there to represent where they are now.

Yeah I’m sad to see nothing from the new album on there, burt apart from that I think it is a good strong setlist. I think those of you complaining about Screamager, Die Laughing, Nowhere being included should shut the hell up. These songs are popular classics which defined Therapy? for many, many people, many more people than the hardcore fans on WoM. The band included plenty of songs as candidates, I’m not surprised or disappointed about the inclusion of Troublegum songs, and I welcome the lesser played tracks. You can’t question the choices made by the non-WoM fanbase, after all Troublegum is the widest selling record. And if you are questioning the band for including Troublegum songs as candidates in the first place, its unfair to judge T? for not playing the songs the hardcore fans want to here, after all why play for the elitists and ignore the wider fanbase?

All in all, I can’t wait until the DVD/CD comes out and I will be one of the first in the queue to get my copy.

I am not the only one, who is a bit disapointed by the setlist. I think they could have done better including less “hit songs” and more unusal stuff. That would have make a better compromise and most people in here would be happy, i guess. But i just will hear 2 new songs out of ten, which i never have seen played live before. Some people would say. “hey two songs great” but i say “Two songs? why not more?” and its my right to do that i think. I know that i won´t change anything, but i want to say what i am thinking.

I hope the band respects that and perhaps if there is something like this in the near future she will be thinking about it, how to handle that.

I don’t mind (too much) not hearing many of the rarer tracks. I am disappointed though, that nothing of the new album will be played.

To be honest, I thought they would play a few of them anyway, so I didn’t vote for them (I wish I had now). I’m loving the bootlegs from this year because of the OCFA tracks. It must be a downer for the band to think that nobody wants to hear the new stuff.

Incidently, after 1998 there’s only one song (If It Kills Me). Surely, that will upset the band a little bit?

I understand that we only made 9% of the votes, although I was a bit suprised to see the Troublegum songs there to start with!

Sure, this could put T? back on the map, but what’s wrong with the fans they have already, are we not good enough?! :(

I think this poll was possibly rigged.

C’mon, Suing God just making it into the setlist? Not suprising, as almost everyone on WoM voted for it!

And, why only 12 songs? :(

Most set lists have at least 15!!

Rant over. :(

*waits for onslaught of criticism*

EDIT: And I think your all being too harsh on Tatty!

I’m reacting here to all the complaints about Nowhere, Die Laughing, Screamager, etc.

At the end of the day here chaps, isn’t it this sort of stuff that got us all interested in the first place?

The darker, weirder, more inaccessible stuff is what makes Therapy? the band we all know and love, but by it’s very nature it isn’t the sort of stuff that wins fans and influences people first off.

We all must have enjoyed listening to these songs at the time, I know I did, and the more I hear Therapy?’s work, the more I appreciate the different bits - but the chance to have this stuff on disc and to persuade other people that next time Therapy? tour we ought to pack out the Albert Hall not a bingo hall is great.

We keep doing this about new releases. Anyone remember the “poor production” debacle about OCFA? Let’s quit moaning, count our blessings and enjoy what we’re given yeah? How many of Therapy?’s 90s contemporaries are around to tell the tale and do the same?

Terrorvision
The Wildhearts
3 Colours Red
Skunk Anansie
The Almighty
Paradise Lost
A

None of these guys are still active in a noticable fashion. How much easier would it have been for Therapy? to do the same and go stack shelves instead of carry on rocking?

Count your blessings people - Therapy? are like your grandparents - make the most of them while you’ve got them cos they ain’t going to be around forever are they? You don’t complain when your gran gives you a kit kat when you wanted a twix now do you?
