Ian Mckaye seems like the most humourless man alive.

I doubt that’s true (hello Billy Corgan!)but you could get that impression of him onstage “Sir, please cease jumping around this isn’t some rock concert y’know. You could fall on someone and spill their drink…” or words to that effect.God he can bang on…

i have 13 songs, if thats the title.. and repeater. but i prefer repeater… one of the less “punk” bands i listen to… but i dont think you can call em punk… cause their later stuff isnt like that, from what i’ve heard!

Fugazi are great.Very interesting stuff. But I dont like all that they stand for.A friend of mine took his girlfriend to one of Ian mckayes gigs. She lit up a fag, and he stopped the show until she put the ciggerette out… meh!

Great, great band. Ian MacKaye is a genius, just a bit of an odd one. When I saw The Evens he certainly wasn’t humourless. I think he lets the whole straight edge thing go to his head, though.

right on! sorry everyone but i hate smoking and can’t wait for the ban. although in england it seems like it’s gonna be a pretty useless “ban”

have all their albums (except the instrument soundtrack) and instrument dvd and saw them at the nerve centre (2002??). ian dragged some guy out of the crowd on to the stage because he had been crowd surfing and bust somebody else’s nose with his boot. then he made the surfer apologise befor they continued.

much better than at the drive-in with holier than though cedric. funny that now he’s in the mars volta and not a fugazi copy band he doesn’t seem to give a monkeys about crowd surfing…

I’m a big fan of Fugazi and Minor Threat and have the other side projects that Ian has done Like embrace but haven’t got round to buying The Evens album he did last year. I was wondering if anyone has it and whats it like, is it worth getting?

I never heard The Evens and Embrace yet, but Minor Threat and Fugazi are amazing, his project with Al Jourgensen, Pailhead was also very good.
I did hear Teen Idles long time ago, but can’t remember much of it realy… I must find that again somewhere :)

Pailhead i enjoyed alot i have that on the MInistry sidetrax album. I only heard of Embrace and Teen Idles releases through the dischord 20 years boxset. I do recommend checking out the embrace album it’s really really good. I have the Teen idles EP somewhere but haven’t listened to it in years. From what i know about The Evens it’s ian and some woman whos name escapes me doing a bit more lighter poppier (sort of) stuff then he has done before. So was interested in checking it out.

Yeah, that’s also everything I know from The Evens, and if I got that right, that woman is his girlfriend.

I’ll check out Embrace for sure :)

Saw them at Glasgow Barrowlands in ‘92 and at the same venue around 4 years ago. Tickets are usually cheap and normally they have 2 or 3 support acts as well.Good band, but live i have to say i find them kinda boring.
Couple of good albums though, with Repeater being the stand out. Steady Diet of Nothing is worth a listen as well.

 Quite. It’s like im so special coz im straightedge.

Well, Ian. Lots of people are. The only difference is, you keep banging on about it.

I’m straightedge too, but dont feel the need to tell everyone i meet :p

You’ve got the complete wrong vision about Ian, that’s pretty clear to me. He isn’t telling anyone he’s straigt edge!? And he’s definately not baning on about it!
It wasn’t even his intention to create this straight edge movement, it just happened, but he doesn’t call himself straight edge at all, he just says he’s GOT the straight edge… most straight edge kids can’t say that!!

How sad.

It;s one thing to not want to get drunk and drugged up, another thing to wet yourself just cos someone lit a fag.

Or do you mean she set fire to a homosexual?! In THAT case he was quite right to defend the poor guy against an horrific homophobic attack.

The Evens are great, but nothing like Minor Threat/Embrace/Fugazi… they definitely fall into the indie category as opposed to (post-)hardcore. Worth checking, though, the songs are great.

Whatever you do.. avoid at all costs that children’s recording Ian did. I can’t remember what it was called (I think it was with his current group The Evens), but I couldn’t listen to Fugazi for weeks afterwards.

“shudders”

There was a video of it floating around out there…looked like something from Sesame Street without the muppets..

Evens Video

It is a terrible song..but it does show they have a sense of humour, and i do think it is for kids:)

I have heard a few songs of the Evens album now and it is nothing like that and i will be getting it at one point.
