I was working in a Lloyds No 1 Bar over the Christmas of 2004 and as we opened the doors on the 27th december the music making machine decided it was going to play Tsunami by the Manic Street Preachers and I had to run upstairs and skip the track because the previous day was the South East Asian Tsunami disaster.
How the music making machine knew this I so not know, but it definitely did - it had never played Tsunami before, or to my knowledge since.

Man, I thought JDB’s album was phenomenally dull… melodies didn’t engage me, while I thought Lifeblood was incredibly pretty and superbly produced (as I always say, I think it’s a really good album, just not a good Manics album).
I can’t wait to hear Nicky’s album. It’s going to be fucking awful, but I have a feeling it’s going to be hilarious.

Alright, so I dug out This Is My Truth… again because of all the supposed duds on there. People probably refer to “I’m Not Working” and the last four songs. I agree that this is definitely the weaker half of the album, but I wouldn’t call one of these songs a dud. Besides “If You Tolerate This…”, “Born A Girl”, “The Everlasting”, “You’re Tender And You’re Tired”, “Tsunami” and “My Little Empire” more than make up for the weaker material.
The second half ain’t *that* weak. The music in “Nobody Loved You” still blows me away. “Black Dog” is nice cheesy listening and “Tender/Tired” is indeed lovely. Who cares about “I’m Not Working” and “SYMM” - skip ‘em.

but jesus, “tsunami” was just about the worst single ever.
Noooo, that was So Why So Sad…when I first heard it on the Jo Whiley show, it made me scream with disgust.

It wasn’t as bad as “The Masses Against The Classes”.

‘Masses…’ is great!
I also think Tsunami is great, one of the better songs on the boring TIMT, TMY.
For me it was just KYE and Lifeblood that were the letdowns. I got tickets to see JDB even tho i don’t own the album i am rather excited!
All this dissent in the ranks, do we reaLLY NEED another Manics album or are we all just going to buy it anyway and hope? I don’t think i’ll be buying the next one for the sake of it, my patience has lost all patience with them :o

Masses rocks my socks.
Well, I didn’t end up buying Lifeblood after all, my copy didn’t convince me. But I’ll download the new Manics album for sure - maybe it’ll make me want to go out and purchase the record. It worked with the JDB album, you see?

I remember around the promotion for Lifeblood they said they were going to go back into the studio as they were on a roll, and record an even more electronic record.
Me and about four other people around the world screamed hurray, and we heard nothing about it. So I’d love to know what the next record will be like.
Also, is it just me, or has the license on God Save The Manics run out? I can’t play the fucking thing any more.
