on the plus side im glad IM are doing well in their old age and proving the death of nu metal once and for all!

I liked the album so much. It sounds like nothing’s new on IM’s side, but it’s not!

I am a big fan too, and live yes, the songs really come to life. Esp Dream of Mirrors and Blood Brothers

listening to it now for the god nows how many time. i love it.

IMO their best album scince 7th Son.

Cant wait to see them in december.

LOL, exactly! “Benjamin Bregg” is the best example. The intro isn’t very interesting the first time around, but then when you think (hope) Dickinson starts singing it’s another round of dum diddy dum diddy dum and that dreamy, boring guitar in the backround.

I don’t blame them for making the same album over and over again. The chance for inventions has long since passed Maiden by and all their fans want to hear is a rehash of the glory days. I could never listen to a whole Maiden album anyway. I always picked out two or three songs from each release and it’s the same thing with the new album. It’s just harder this time as there are so many useless epics.

Bought this for a friend’s birthday so I had a sneaky peak at the DVD last night - hang on, this is the same content that has been available on the official site for weeks! What a rip-off, at least they could have had something exclusive for those who have paid the extra for the 2 disc version! Fortunately the documentary is, whilst fairly brief at 30 mins, quite interesting and has a good mix of funny moments and genuine insight into the creative process.

Actually Adrian Smith does tuned his bottom E string down to D on a few tracks when they play them live, but that is less to do with trying to sound current and everything to do with trying to be heard over two other guitarists!

I think all bands should experiment and there are a lot of bands that lapse into self-parody in later years, but then again a band like the Stones DOES try new things, and gets slated for it, so it’s kind of hard for older bands to win!

But yeah, the galloping thing really HAS got to stop.:D

I think maybe the best compromise a band can come to in that respect is to stick to what they know, but to present it in a new way - e.g. use different guitars, different sounds, try a new brand of amp, set up your drum kit differently etc etc.

One of the problems with Maiden is that, whilst the songs may be better or worse, they always have the same SOUND.

A fresh sound is a good way to breath new life into an old style.

I sent them an email saying we haven’t received our Maiden CD we ordered for a mate’s birthday, so they say ” ah these things DO get lost in the post sometimes, don’t worry, we will refund you or send you a replacement”

“Good”, says I “cos I want a refund, don’t need a replacement, I have bought it elsewhere now”.

“Oops”, says HMV “you see, we…erm…have already posted a replacement, you’ll have to return it to us for a refund”

Ah well, at least I will be able to give you my full review on here of it, cos I am damn straight gonna copy the fucker!

Different Worlds is a strong opener, and is an obvious single, but from then on in, the album suffers from them trying to shoehorn completely different pieces of music together in the same song with seemingly no musical or thematic benefit.

And whatever they do, it still just sounds like your typical Iron Maiden album…those guitarists really need to push themselves to try things they haven’t done before.

When I first heard of the single The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg I really thought that this is it, Maidens are history now. But after then when I heard the whole album for the first time I thought “okay, they made another shitty No Prayer For The Dying” kinda crap. Few times more of listening to the new album and I started liking the album. It has good songs, not that any of these aren’t so special Maidens songs but why to change anything if they’re still the best in for what they’re doing? Can someone name any other band that makes things better than Maidens? Bruce still has the most powerful metal singer’s voice ever and Irons still rocks.

These Colours Don’t Run and Brighter Than A Thousand Suns are my favourite tracks from the new album. The rest of the album is just good. I know someone might say that These Colours Don’t Run ain’t that great. But there’s something magical in that song and I can’t tell it. Maybe the chorus? Maybe Bruce’s voice? Maybe the whole song?
