Punk??

#

Started by efilnikufesin

More of a social comment on the apparent tastes of these young folk i see in my shop which have the modern “punk” uniform on - mowhawk, rancid t shirt ,combat trousers and many holed dm boots and of course the leather jacket with “the exploited” motifs tippexed on them.
The thing that baffles me is the fact that these bands are only deemed as punk because they sing in a tough cockney accent - even though they arent from london. And when i asked these people if they liked Therapy?- (whos musical and lyrical qualitys piss on these bands) , they answered “is that therapy? - the dirty grunge band?”

WHAT?

Obviosly T? are not a punk band but i just cant understand the lack of taste people in this country have - just for trend following.

punks around here are either funny or anoying. i mean, not taking a shower and drinking cheap beer is fun when you’re 16, but it get’s pretty hilarius when you’re over 20.

Therapys? are Therapy?…they are too special, to be just “punk” or just “metal” or just “whatever”…

that’s not the easier way to go, and i respect them for that…

what’s with that habit people took to put music into cases, and well, if you don’t fit into the punk case, that’s that you fit in the metal one or the grunge one…do you guys listen to only one kind of music? i guess not…so what the fock do you care about who’s punk, who’s grunge and who’s metal? as long as the music and words make you FEEL something…that’s what counts!

ho yeaaaaah..!

Define punk. The word is about as abused and meaningless as it can become - to call Blink 182 and Sum 41 ‘punk’ is stretching the term about as far as it’ll go, but you’re right, people get hung up on terminology, at which it descends to nothing more than a marketing ploy. Busted are ‘soooo’ punk.

The same happened with ‘4 Real’ - meant something to Ritchie Manic about his credibility that a lot of people understood, but when Hairy Jellywell started saying that the Spice Girls were ‘4 Real’, the term had become hollow.

Most people are sheep and will wear what the magazines tell them to wear, listen to what the radio tells them is good, and in general have no opinion of their own. Go to a pub or club, go up to a good looking girl (or guy if that floats your boat)and see if you can talk to her for longer then 3 minutes without wanting to explain how very stupid she is to her. Wait for the amount of pricks that’ll be parading around the streets in Beckams new haircut in a matter of week for proof

Does this approach often meet with success?

I think stuff like the spice girls is more real in the sense that they’re manufactured po plain and simple, there’s no trying to hide they were marketed at kiddies and their lovely pocket money, certainly a lot more real than some of these punk bands currently doing the rounds, but I know what you mean about the 4 real thing being invalidated though.

Actually, here’s a thought, after Richie dissapeared did you notice how fat the Manics went? I think they ate him.

The lyrics to the chorus of Everything Must Go certainly seem somewhat confessional now you mention it.

No, it´s just in your head. Weeks ago I had a discussion ´bout this topic with some friends, and they asked me, if I consider myself to be a punk. And I said “No, I´m a rocker.” And this is also, what I think of T?: They´re no Metal, they´re no punk or whatever. They´re just ROCK.

Good morning.

You should try just going for an out and out insult - you might get a slap, but at least its physical contact.

This is 100% correct. Its not the kids of today fault thay don’t understand ‘real’ punk - they are influenced by the things they have around them now. They will never understand WHY punk had to force its way into existence in the 1st place.
The sentiment of 3 colours red still rings true though, ” we’re not punk cos that was 1977 but they were right, there’s still no tomorrow!”

I think if you’re not part of some gang and you have your own brain, and do things on your own for yourself then you can call yourself punk for breaking the mould society fitted you up in. If, on the other hand, you hang around shopping centres and wear something that looks good on your friends etc - you are a contender for being a WASTE OF SPACE!!!
