is it because of the lyrics that so many people like morrissey on here?

went to see him him at stirling recently and there was quite a crush. crazy, crazy people

picture was about two seconds before someone jumped from seating upstairs on to p.a and then on stage rock and roll

I was never really a huge fan, until recently,

i came across( aw sick!!)a copy of one of the smiths greatest hits albums, i have been hooked ever since…

I dont think that it is so much the lyrics(although they are excellent)… i believe that it is the melody that is used to sing them!! Anyway he is a genius!

“Hand in glove the good people stare, no i really dont know and i really dont care”

That song got me hooked…
the opening is tré infectious

I second that about Johnny Marr.

fact fans: Johnny Maher, as his mammy knows him, changed the spelling of his name so as to not get confused with the Buzzcocks drummer of the same name.
Mike Joyce, Smiths drummer, later went on to fulfil a short stint as drummer for, you guessed it , the Buzzcocks.

It is, as they say, a small world.

Wasnt sure who the guitarist is(was)

But ya, the riffs are really class, very melodic and catchy!
He has a very distinct style of playing, original!

They can be heavy at times too..

I heard somewhere that they are all suing the shit out of each other over rights to the songs… something about the bassist reclaiming a house that moz bought for his parents?

or am i buying into dribble by useless shitemerchants?

Dennis wrote:

This all basically stems from the fact that, after the demise of the Smiths, Bassist Andy Rourke, along with Mike Joyce, discovered that they had only been paid royalties at a rate of 10% whilst Morrissey and Marr were on more than twice as much.

The argument being that, whilst Rourke and Joyce expected nothing of the songwriting royalties (as they didn’t write the songs) they expected an equal cut of the mechanical royalties, which are an altogether different thing (Mechanical royalties are what you get paid for physically playing the music, i.e. in the studio or at gigs).

Marr and Morrissey argue that they had much more to do in the studio, whereas Rourke and Joyce insist that, OK they didn’t write the songs but they played on the recordings and played at the gigs - in Joyces words “we were in the van travelling across the country”.

The Smiths’ record contract stated that rourke and Joyce would get less, but, strangely, only Marr and Morrissey were considered as needed to sign the contract, so the other two had no idea they were being (alledgedly) done over.

Rourke settled out of court as he couldn’t afford to persue it further. Joyce persisted and won.

See the non-UK version of Maladjusted for Morrissey’s opinion on the matter in the track Sorrow Will Come In The End.

(God, I am such a nerd)

i remember there was a court case before (one of many) in which the judge said that morrissey was “devious, truculent and unreliable”.

now i have never heard anybody else EVER be described as truculent. i had to look it up. but then again i don’t spend my days reading dictionaries. that’s reserved strictly for weekends and christmas.

truculent \TRUCK-yuh-luhnt\, adjective:
1. Fierce; savage; ferocious; barbarous.
2. Cruel; destructive; ruthless.

Oh

So it has nothing to do with opening at the side, air-breaks and 18-wheelers…?

:( How disappointing

But yeah, even as a big fan of Morrissey, I have a strong feeling that he is a right pain to deal with and probably DID do his one-time rhythm section over.

He said they were “as replaceable as broken down parts of a lawnmower”, which is a bit of a c*nty statement to make, really.

EDIT: Unless his lawnmower is anything like my Flymo…The blade is jammed on and I can’t get it off to sharpen it for love nor money. Maybe that’s what he meant: “I can’t get shot of them, even with that funny plastic, orange spanner you get with it, which is pretty fucking useless, considering. Why don’t they give you at least a metal one, so it doesn’t shatter into shards when you apply the teensiest but of pressure…?”

Morrissey was quoted once as saying about The Smiths: “I loved and love Johnny Marr, but I feel tremendous indifference to Bruce and Rick.”

It’s OK, I think Moz would be quite honoured.

sound for the info,

I suppose its all down to watching your dealings when you are a musician…trust no-one!!!

Morrisey is known as being a cuntflap anyway, its hard being a tortured soul, even a rich one, one still feels bad for the bassist and the drummer though!
