Hey, while i’m here, can everybody name the film that the song ‘Innocent X’ pinched a line from? ‘What i’d really hate is to have a nail banged through the back of my neck… slowly.’ I love that line!

…anyone is interested said film is on TV on Saturday (UK)

My lovely chap rented Withnail & I the other night, totally unrelated to my mentioning it, but yes I fell asleep. I’m sorry! I tried really hard, I think I got a bit past where he gets attacked by the bull but it was all too much and I conked out. I was quite enjoying it but it makes me so sleepy :(

It was funny and I was laughing, just with my eyes closed.

Next time it’s on I’ll just start watching it half way through and then maybe I’ll last long enough to see what happens.

I had a friend come round once to watch Monty Python’s The Holy Grail, and it fell asleep about ten minutes in. The weird thing was, he was quoting along with the movie in his sleep! It’d say ‘What do we do with witches?’ and we’d hear this guy go ‘*snore*… burn them…’ You have to be a special kind of freak to do that sort of thing!

I’ll tell you what happens in the second half, if it’ll help stop you from dropping off.

Okay but you’re not allowed to lie to me!

lol@Blonde Blade, I truly can’t believe that anyone could sleep through Monty Python - though I think if he knew it well enough to quote along he should be forgiven ;)

Well actually it might put you off Hooch, cos not a lot actually does happen.

But you’re missing out on some classic scenes, including:

Withnail getting into an argument with a poacher who threatens him with a dead fish

Withnail and I drunkenly stumbling into an Olde Tea Shoppe and offending all the elderly patrons

A drunk Withnail driving manicly up the motorway to the sound of Jimi Hendrix, before trying to persuade a policeman he’s only had “a few light ales”.

Heh heh, I’m chuckling now. Might have to watch it again :)

It does all sound jolly good fun and I will see the end if only for the reason that it’s one of those films that you really ought to have seen. I have a friend who didn’t watch Star Wars until she was 19 (in ‘98) - how bizarre is that?

it is bizarre, and as far as i’m concerned i watched all of The Magnificent Seven just two years ago. i’ve always missed either the beginning or the end. it took me nineteen years to see it all.
maybe i’m not a big fan of western movies.

so Withnail is really the most quoted british film.. :D

Me and my dad have actually started giving each other ‘homework films’, because there’s so many we’ve never watched. Actually, Withnail and I was one of them, because my dad has never seen it, the poor deprived thing.

Insidently, my friend managed to sleep through Monty Python because he was very drunk and we’d been watching movies since 8 o’clock that morning. The only time he woke up was to be sick, and even then he just woke up, threw up into a pint glass (an exact pint!), then went back to sleep again. I went to empty it and when i came back he’d done another half pint for me… ah, happy days.

Lovely. I’ve always admired the knack men have for puking in exact beer measures.

My chap once got very drunk and when he woke up in the morning he discovered every single mug in the house laid out in a straight line and he’d managed to piss in each of them. God knows.
