Check out Amorphis too, especially Tales… and Elegy. Their newest (Eclipse) is also a real winner. Other Finnish band is Reverend Bizarre, very good.
Two Belgian bands Blutch and Amenra esp amenra is cool ISIS/Neurosis style but “crunchier”
You’re saying that Amorphis is doom? Reverend is for sure but not Amorphis. Karelian Isthumus is death metal like Tales…and Elegy is more like heavy rock and Eclipse (which is a great album btw) too. They’re Kalevala metal band. :D
Isis is more like emocore or something like that and Neurosis is just Neurosis.
But more like doom is Sleep (just listen to Dopesmoker and you understand),some say that My Dying Bride is doom (maybe then, at least it’s very slow kinda metal), older Anathema is definitely doomier than they’re doing nowadays. You guys should try Confessor’s album Unraveled if you’re into doom metal. It’s good band. And don’t forget “Black Sabbath meets Portishead” Jucifer! Burning Witch is also one I recommend. Try album Crippled Lucifer. Electric Wizzard is also one to recommend and of course, Cathedral.
But remember kids, the only one doom band in the start was Black Sabbath..they started it all. But hey, all hail the new flesh!

Kalevala metal no niin?
I’d say Amo has something doomy and melancholic in their undercurrent and a track like Better Unborn is as doom as anything else.
I think you need to check Yob, everybody should. They just topped it with their four albums (elaborations on carbon, catharsis, illusion of motion, the unreal never lived) in five years. All of them magnificent doom metal drawing from every influential band earlier on and a great deal of imagination and guts from themselves.
Here’s more: Heavy Lord from holland and Gates of Slumber from the states, especially Gates are a fresh band in and old genre.
I like Holy Mountain much more than Dopesmoker, probably it’s blasphemy but I find Dopesmoker boring. Sleep’s members formed two new bands by the way: Om, whom I’m not familiar with and High On Fire who deliver a rather standard doom metal stoner hard rock thing on the first two albums and sped things up a few notches on their most recent: Blessed Black Wings.
Wanna learn all about it?

Well Better Unborn sounds more like Kingston Wall :D I
Yes, I got it what you’re telling. Tales…might be their doomiest record in my books but still it leans to progressive death metal. Amo’s do have doomier stuff like First Doom :)
And people, don’t forget finnish doom band Swallow The Sun!
