So which are them?

(Before changing the message boards’ software in August 2007 this discussion contained a poll, which may return in the future)

oooh, tough one, i voted for drop d cos i always keep coming bakc to it for fun, and its useful for practicinsg riffs, but it depedns on what your playing. C has a great fatness fro sotnerock, where as b and d flat have that gorgeous heavy yet semi mournful tone to them.

Are you sure you’ve written that right, TO&OY? :-s Open tunings are when all the strings are tuned to a chord, not just tuned down.

I’m constantly changing… usually stick to standard, but I mess about a lot. Tuning the open strings to weird chords is cool, and DADGAD is always fun.

Standard for me.

I can never get to grips with drop D..I mean, you get some great, great Sabbath-y, doomy riffs, but apart from that, what’s the point…?

I have tried open tuning for things like Brown Sugar and Honky Tonk Woman by the Stones, which work great for those songs but anything else and it’s like trying to learn the instrument all over again

Whats with first string A? My guitar player plays that kind of tuning on his 7 string. so if i play standard on 4 string bass, then his first string is my second.

I find it depends on the mood.If I just wanna have a blast and annoy the neighbours drop D gets a run out but tend to stick to standard tuning cause there’s a way around every song even if octaves wrong,I’m just too lazy
