Fansite Upload Rules

#

Started by Private Nobody (Michael McGrath-Bryan)

I’m setting up a T? fansite soon (Freewebs job), and I’m wondering what the state of play is as regards MP3 uploads. Bootlegs are okay, I know that, but what of rarities, B-sides etc.?

Well, that would be uh, pretty much every B-side before NANE wouldn’t it? I guess for reasons of space I’ll only put up my top ten rare/B-Side tracks. Rough list (as if the hardcores on WoM don’t have ‘em):

Here Is
Auto Surgery
Potato Junkie (Live)
I Am The Money (Full Length Version)
Lunacy Booth (Strings Version)
Teethgrinder (New Recording)
Our Love Must Die (Live) (tops the original)
Nice Guys
Neck Freak (New Recording) (incredible)
Suing God (topical)

…and maybe Invisible Sun.

These tracks go up pending the approval of the bootlegger I got ‘em from, of course. :D

Anyone have any bootleg MP3 of Femtex, Hypermania, Animal Bones, Shitkicker and Fantasy Bag?

Why would you need bootleg mp3s? It’s very easy to buy the albums these tracks are from.

This is just a suggestion.
I don’t mean to sound bossy or anything! But!

Maybe you shouldn’t bother including any tracks that are already on my T? Webpage ;
http://www.freewebs.com/jobrok1/therapydownloads.htm

Freeweb sites have limited storage space and can only hold a handfull of MP3’s.
Just include the above link and upload any songs that I don’t have listed. That way there are more rare T? tracks available to fans.
Likewise! I will add your link to my webpage too.

Kind of like a mini T?net.(cheesy or what ;) )

I’m sure the band don’t mind.. but even if you can’t buy it anymore the record company still own the copyright and could if wanted sue anyone who hosts them.. just to warn people.

A&M are now part of universal.. and are still going in name. People like Sheryl Crow are still signed to A&M and up to 2002 were still releasing albums via that label… not saying that they ever will but if the record label ever decided to release a b-sides comp for instance then they may go looking.

I am talking from a legal point of view and not one that is likely to happen… the guidelines say it’s fine… i just know what record companys are like.:)

What about radio sessions and the Fan Club releaes? Those aren’t copyrighted. And Jobrok- I got my B-sides bootleg from you, man! Yeah, I’ll put up different stuff so. Seeing as there isn’t really a Links section in the site anymore, I think we should have an unofficial fansite network or something…

Andy was talking about releasing a radiosessionscompilation soon, not sure if it will happen, but you never know, so I think it’s not such a good idea to put radiosessions online.

Radio Broadcasts are copyrighted.. otherwise anyone could make a copy off the radio of a live session and produce a CD and sell it. I think… though I could be wrong that the copyright is owned by the radio station but i’m sure the Record company have a stake in it as well.

Don’t recordcompanies own the rights to the songs? If so, it would be illegal to post any live recording of no matter what song that has ever been released…
The reason why I think so, is that bootlegging IS illegal, however the band doesn’t have problems with it either.
I think however Divers may be right about the copyrights of radiosessions, it’s possible that they belong to the radiostation…

Oh! Mickey…
Just clicked it’s you.

I need to do a major overhaul of my T? Webpage.
Thinking of stripping it down completely! And just have it as a T? rare tracks page.
Leave the tracks I have up and include links to as many other rare tracks as possible.

Record companies own the copyright to the recorded version (i.e the one done in the studio that they paid for.. or at a live gig that they are Offically recording at for release)

Bootlegs seem to be a grey area.. offically they are illegal, but with the trading that people do on this board.. no money is being made and the Band are happy for them to be recorded and traded. Live gigs and merchendise are one of the few things that record companies don’t make money from(?) So recording of gigs and who should be on the war path about them are the bands.. who most don’t mind unless fans are getting sold shit quality recordings for silly money and being ripped off.

I think the trading still is illegal, not sure though, but the taping itselves is… not that I care, as long as it doesn’t do any harm to T? :p

So there is a links page! I’m sorry, I’m legally blind or something. Yeah, Jobrok, you should do that. I’ll have a few rare tracks up in the next few weeks. And as for bootlegs: they don’t harm the band or the labels in my view so trade on, motherfuckers!!! (Speaking of bootlegs, does anyone have Walk Through Darkness from the last Paradiso gig and if so could I get it here as an MP3 attachment? Cheers, peeps…)
