Cheers for the info!
I’m quite looking forward to finally getting a top quality version of “Teethgrinder” from the Evening Session ‘92 (the DJ talked all over the last 10 seconds or so of the broadcast version). The speed metal intro is worth the download alone! Superb version :)

I know how to download, but would prefer not to… if a physical copy comes out in the same timeframe as the download then I’ll go for that — but if there’s a chance of a physical copy a few months after the download, would it be reasonable to offer people who’ve already paid for the download a cost-price option to “upgrade” to the physical media?

Title: BBC Sessions (merged)
A Therapy? BBC Sessions release is cool and all, but a few things:
1) Will the free session downloads on the Audio page of the site be stopped?
2)Why not release it on CD? Not all of us have credit cards…
3)Is this a sort-of admission that Therapy? won’t ever do mainstream work again? I ask because I think the world needs to see how great they are, and it’s a shame that probably won’t appen if they’re closing off their body of work by not calling it a “Volume 1” or whatever…

I get the feeling that it’s download or nothing. The finances aren’t there for a proper ‘hardcopy’ release, I’d say. Maybe download is the only option for this kinda stuff - if so, I’m very happy about it!

I agree with Alan, and I’m absolutely no fan of downloadable music. They probably can’t afford it, or can’t take the risk of releasing it on CD. I’m glad they don’t burry their ideas, but give their fans the chance to download it.

As far as i’m aware.. it’s a different record company behind this project to spitfire.. so a hardcopy may not be out of the question. It’s become more regular these days for itunes to want to get the release rights first to try and beat the illegal downloads. It’s also a good way for record companies (i am thinking more independent ones for example) to see how much interest in the release there is and can then decide on if and how big a number of hard copies should be made (i’m sure there is a warehouse somewhere full of Chesney Hawks unsold albums). It’s best to wait and see.. and not blame the band as it’s not their decision at the end of the day it’s down to the record company deciding on what they “think” us record buying public want:rolleyes:

Private Nobody, I don’t yet know if the free downloads will disappear from the audio page. Regarding a CD, as Sarah said earlier in this thread: “Nothing has been confirmed about a CD release as yet but it’s hopeful”
I think Alan (edit: and soul doubt + Divers) hit the nail on the head about why it’s a download-only release right now.
In response to the comparison made with the webgig earlier: the webgig is just that - a gig distributed via the web. No downloads = no webgig.

so if we all buy it theyll see t? are worth it and maybe release a cd of it (wishfull thinking??)
i guess cus its through universal thats why the 2004 bbc session is missing as it contained spitfire songs.

Any word yet on whether this is iTunes UK only?
or will it be initially only UK or what?
Just wondering if I should get excited on the first day or should I prepare myself for a longer wait.
I have no problems with download only (whatever gets the music out there), as long as I can download it

Sad, for the download only, mainly because of the choice of stores.
ITunes is the best of the ones listed. But some of us, hate the drm/hardware lock in/quality restrictions that comes along with it.
I imagine this is the labels doing more so than the bands. Or some weird compromise to get rights to distribute the material.
Nonetheless if I can get it in the US, I’ll find a way to get it likely from Itunes.

Strange Fruit was John Peels record label, and I don’t think they have put anything out since he died. I’m guessing it was just easier for the BBC to do a joint thing with the label that owns their back catalogue.

Divers, I accept your answer to my question, but if I remember rightly, there have been sessions by Thin Lizzy and Bruce Dickenson’s pre Maiden band Samson and various other BBC recordings that have been released through Strange Fruit that have nothing to do with the late great man.
However, I’m not starting World War Three over this.

I never said the releases have to have anything to do with John Peel.. just that it was his label and if you go to the offical Strange fruit Website they haven’t released anything since 2004… so was just saying that it may no longer be running as a Label anymore and incapable to release this compilation:)

Thin Lizzy did actually record for the John Peel show, believe it or not. It wasn’t always obscure Lativian Death/ Folk Metal played at the wrong speed :D
