Valentine’s Day

#

Started by mrs h

I’m sure all you male WoMbles are panicking now because you’ve suddenly realised that tomorrow is Valentine’s Day and you still haven’t bought anything or remembered to book a table or change the bedding.

If you have any questions about what to do and how to cope, you may post them here and lady WoMbles will be able to advise you. If they feel like it. Although most of them are probably busy wrapping gifts and making beautiful hand-crafted cards and such-like.

Still, if it helps only one WoM widow it will have been worth it :)

One day you women will realise that if you have to coerce someone into something using emotional blackmail, it really doesn’t mean a fat lot in the end anyway!

I hate Valentines Day, I believe it to be a complete nonsense and a swindle. I refuse to do anything to mark it and thankfully my girlfriend feels the same… at least I hope she does, otherwise I’m fucked!

I had a text from Orange yesterday reminding me about the 2 for 1 cinema tickets thing they do on a Wednesday, and saying how it would be nice to treat a loved one to a film on Valentine’s Day!

How cheap exactly do they think I am?! :D

“Here, babe, I’m gonna take you to see a chick flick…Seeing as it is BOGOF! And we can pop into McDonald’s on the way back, see if they are still doing the Meal deals…”

@ Dennis - Just f**k off. I’m not swearing at you, I just believe it would be best for your wife in the long run. All things considered :p

@ Alan - You’re f**ked! She probably just says that so her mates don’t take the piss when she’s the only one that doesn’t some special attention. I hope you feel suitably ashamed of yourself! :p

edit: This post was answering the stuff at the top - you’re going too fast!

Wasn’t Valentines Day created by Hallmark?

@ Alan - Yes, probably. I can tell you’re not married. After the first few kids and a couple of decades of work you will realise that it’s not all that easy to find 5 minutes for a cup of tea together, let alone an evening of uninterrupted decadence :(

Is that before or after you get her out of the box and inflate her?

All I am saying is that if I was left to my own devices Valentine’s Day wouldn’t just mean more to my wife, it would mean more to ME too.

If I buy something just because she points at it the week before Valentine’s Day and says “Oh look, I would LOVE ONE OF THOSE ON VALENTINE’S DAY, HINT HINT HINT”, well, what’s the point?

See?

Well I agree with you there Dennis. There is no way that I would expect a gift for Valentines Day, let alone point one out - but i do like the planning the night, and choosing a restaurant together that we’ve never been to before and having fun without worrying that the world and his wife are going to invite themselves along etc etc.

Although as I’m buggering off to Amsterdam tomorrow without my beloved I should probably shut up at this juncture! :(

You’re right Dennis, I gave my gf a nice pressie last week ‘cos I saw it and wanted to get it for her. I didn’t feel the need to wait till Valentines day to give it. I think being nice just ‘cos it’s a certain day is weird. For me at least.

Proper days like birthdays, anniversaries etc are a different story, but a day like valentines just means nothing to me.

I got my boyfriend a nice card, and we will probably go out for dinner. This year it’s on me, last year he paid. I think that’s fair

I didn’t used to. But then i found true love and now everywhere I go i see bluebirds and bunny rabbits :)

I never said I did. I’m defending it, not advocating it.

i’m not old!

Its not just valentines day! Its easter, christmas, mothers day, fathers day, etc. All bollocks. Anything that involves purchasing something for no reason other than to make card makers and novelty gift makers rich. I’m extremely disappointed that my fellow humans do this.

And you KNOW i can’t list 5 things! :p

Who says I’m horrible? I’m as nice to my mother on mothers day as I am every other day, which is pretty nice! In some cases (note: some) I feel that these so-called ‘special’ days are excuses for people who are not nice to people who are close to them, to be nice to them just for one day. My overall point is that you try to be a good person everyday, it means more to the person you love than being extra nice just for one day. Just my thoughts.

But it’s not about being ‘nice’ it’s about making a special effort to show someone how much you care about them. I agree with you about Valentines day, it’s commercial shit just like Christmas, but the idea of having one day where it’s just the 2 of you is lovely.

I’ve still got Mother’s Day cards that my kids made me at nursery school, and they really mean a lot to me. If they made a card every day then it wouldn’t have meant so much, would it? Although in fairness they made cards for Christmas, Easter, Divali, Vaisakhi, Hallowe’en… :D

And I don’t think your horrible - you seem very sweet :)
