AMAZING! :D

Gotta love BBC session albums! I will be installing itunes tonight just to get hold of this, plus the new download only Inspiral Carpets B-sides collection Keep The Circle (highly recommneded for fans of swirling psychedelic pop music done in the garage style!)

Was there not another song done for that first Peel Session though? Regardless, it will be great to finally have a good quality version of Innocent Abstraction.

Quality.

Edit: >Jesus, it’s gonna cost £22.12 to buy the whole thing

Whoops, just seen this. That is steep indeed! :/

That is just a guess by the way… I’m basing it on other itunes releases and knowing how close to the release date some details and issues are still on resolved. It’s just easier for them to amend a digital album than a hardcopy so don’t have to mess with schedules so much. The press release from the record company only mentions a few songs but as it’s one of them it’s obviously meant to be on there.. at one point in time at least?

Mp3’s are all well and good, but I’d love a proper CD of this and the web gig.

I’d rather the band gets all my money then itunes taking a cut from the profits!

I’m definitely going to buy it, but only when its available on another site. Itunes is no use and I can’t stand apple and all their overhyped rip off products.

And those stupid Mac adverts, they make me go for a PC even more.

I am looking forward to downloading the tunes from the US store once they get there, if ever…

OCFA is still not on there, thankfully got mine in the mail.

Why anti iTunes?

Because for starters they make you install their crap software on your PC. I just want to download music, not software.

Because they complicate music downloading with their Geographical / Regional shite - remember the “Freeze the remains” issue? Was that song ever available outside of iTunes UK? Talk about damaging a bands sales…

Because they try to monopolise the market with gimmicks like “iTunes only tracks” and “available on iTunes before anywhere else” crap.

Because they are forcing bands down the route of all this download shite at an accelerated rate.

Those enough reasons for ya?

Divers (Simon) wrote:

Actually it’s not itunes or apple that that put into effect the regional stuff or the copy protected files/ itunes only tracks.. that is totally down to the record companies. They are paranoid of illegal downloads and offer itunes only tracks so they are bought through that seller. The regional issue is something that happens with hardcopy releases it’s just that it is easier to buy imports… but legally certain releases don’t have rights in certain countrys so can’t be offered there, hence the reason T? albums aren’t released in USA.

Yes get annoyed that you need to install software to use but not for the rest of your reasons as that is TOTALLY down to the record companies. Apple are trying to convince them otherwise and have been since putting itunes online.

I’m totally against downloads and having to buy things from any digital download shop, just so I don’t come across like I’m bias… it’s the record companys that are more to blame in pushing bands to do downloads means they have less over heads and can rip the artists off more.

Exactly. And to prove Divers’ point, read what the CEO of Apple has to say on this matter, urging record companies to drop the DRM madness.

So,

it is the record companies fault - well, Apple / iTunes is giving them the perfect outlet to get away with it should this be the case. Can’t stand Apple - just fucking low quality trend objects - drop an iPod and it is fucked.

In true Apple style they just have to add an additional file type just to fuck up the market a little more.

I am sorry, but I honestly couldn’t be arsed reading that CEOs brief - too longwinded for my liking, but answer me this - what about the other download sites that will be offering this album? Do they suffer under the same restrictions? Excuse my ignorance if they do
(not really into downloading), but I always hear of it being an iTunes problem.

Not entirely convinced of your “iTunes only” arguement, if this was so they would also be offering the tracks to other download websites and not restricting their sales base to benefit one provider - we are talking greedy record companies here, remember?- why just to iTunes? I smell a rat.

All they do in my books is just tempt people to go the file sharing route - talk about shooting yourself in the knee.

Anyways, continue loving them if you want.

And,

Just not to bounce too off topic - I hope it is somewhat less complicated to get these tracks at the “other good music download stores” whomever they may be.

I still dream or an official CD release. Whatever next? The next Therapy? album being iTunes only???

That’s not an iTunes only thing…

When Face to Face’s “Innocence is Bliss”, if you bought it at Best Buy it came with a free exclusive EP “So Why Aren’t You Happy”…which I got by the way.

Also you see all over the place exclusive content from various outlets both on-line and traditional (Y’all Mart, Best Buy ect…)

Now don’t quote me on this part… but I believe the reason for this is the record company is trying to get a little extra push from a particular outlet. So they offer them something extra to get extra exposure or visability with the outlet. Not necessarily the outlet dictating something.

The label makes the deals with whoever bites first, or has the most to offer them. It’s a mutual thing between the label and the store.

summer_of_hate, files on iTunes are encoded in the AAC format. AAC is able to reproduce sounds more accurately with less data, so a 128 kbps AAC file is roughly equivalent to a 192 kbps MP3 file.

Yeah, having listened to a few of the tracks the quality does seem pretty dead on. And of course the tracks themselves are awesome (love the thrash intro to Teethgrinder!) Looking forward to reading the sleeve notes too.

Shame there’s no easy way to transfer these copy protected tracks onto my Creative Zen player. Maybe someone who’s holding out for their release on another DRM-free site could help me out at some point? I can provide the CDR!

I think I’ll be uninstalling iTunes as soon as I get this sorted. Incidentally, I hear if you seek out an older version of iTunes (say, 4.6) and use a program called Hymn you can strip off the DRM and convert from AAC m4p to regular mp3 fairly easily.

However, those who installed Itunes 6 or higher and downloaded (like me) are stuck with damn m4p files that will only play through that version! Uninstalling and reverting to the older version doesn’t work. :(

Divers (Simon) wrote:

The way to not make them copy protected and able to be put on to other systems is burn the tracks to cd (if you still have itunes installed you can burn the cd using that).. then just re-import them as normal MP3’s (you change the import settings in the preferences)at the sample and bit rate that you wish, hopefully then you can put them on you creative zen:)

Is it only me who finds that all if this is more complicated than it needs to be?

I will not comment on iTunes again and fair play to you Divers for helping the fellow WOMbles out, but do you know where I am coming from?

Burn onto a feckin CDR just so you can get it onto your ZEN (which I also happen to use)? Thank god this is not going to be iTunes only and to keep things fair, i will equally bitch about the other download sites should they be equally akward.

Anyways, I won’t mention it again. Peace

Loving the feedback on this and can’t wait to hear it :)

Kerrang! have given MTACT a review which is good I guess, but only gave it 3 K’s.

They also used an old picture of the band with Martin still in it. School boy error, and fairly surprising seeing as Brannigan the editor is such a big T? fan.
