The Belfast Marathon…

#

Started by CS (Colin S)

Anyone entering it this year?
I’m tempted by doing the 3 mile fun run in a fat suit or doing the 26 mile full run… I wanna do it naked, but feel I might get arrested :(

Anyone gonna do it?

Colinx

(Before changing the message boards’ software in August 2007 this discussion contained a poll, which may return in the future)

Although I doubt Belfast would like it…

So really that’s an appeal…

If you want to run 26 miles naked for a good cause, for the price of £30 (can’t be bothered figuring that out in euros) you can do it with me. :D

Do I have to be naked to get sponsored? None of my friends wants to run nude…

Also, all money I raise is going to NSPCC or another charity that I might like..

So 3 mile it is.. I’ve been training already for it… running 2 miles each night. :)

I’m a skinny streak of pish that’s been off the fegs for 2 weeks if that helps your assessment. I mean I don’t want to end up like Jade Goodie at the London Marathon:

PS I heard that running on concrete to train can give shin splints - do you know if that’s true?

Fair play to you mate, I am a fat heffer who went through a period of running and even did a half marathon at one point, though I nearly pass out from sheer exhaustion at just typing the words now, never mind the thought of actually running that far…

And yes, if you are not a seasoned runner, 26 miles could very well kill you!

What’s the crack with your sponsorship, maybe you can bully a few WoMbles into coughing up some money? :D

EDIT

as for running on concrete, yeah it can cause a lot of discomfort so get yourself a new pair of running shoes - even if they are just cheap and cheerful - cos they will be new and have a nice new springy sole that will give you a bit of cushioning.

Where I live is very much built up but I try and run in such a way that if there is a piece of grass or a softer surface i will take every opportunity to stray from the concrete, but if you have a nice big park by you I’d use that instead.

Don’t skimp on the shoes if you are running - its the one piece of equipement that will save you discomfort (I regularly suffer with heel spurs) Go to a good sport store with a running specialist and get them to analyze your gait and they can reccomend some shoes. I personally prefer Asics.

Print out an application form. :)
I reckon that if me and Derm done the marathon WoMbles could sponsor us. :)

Any money I raise will be given to charity.
Possibly Cancer Research. Not sure yet. :)

You should give it to people who are disabled from running on concrete :)

Don’t need to do it in a fat suit… Hooch said she’d sponsor us if we were dressed as Wombles… so if you can get the Dennis look I think we’re sorted. :)
