Gaps between albums

Started by Graeme55? (Graeme Williams) in Other Bands & Artists

is it just me, or are there far to many artists/bands who take far too long to release studio albums these days,

i mean, metallica are taking 4 years
ozzy osbourne is taking 6 maybe 7 years
tool take 5 years at a time
guns n roses. 16 years and fucking counting!! (what is axl rose doing, having a wank?!)
green day, 4 years

i think they are taking the piss slightly, but if theyre doing other projects then fair enough, i dont see any of the above doing anything else, (except axl rose who seems to be doing nothing at all),

think about it this way, the gap between the album before last to the latest ones, and between the latest albums to the next are getting bigger. who agrees?

I find it weird thaT BANDS DO THAT… DON’T THEY REALISE THAT IN 5 YEARS ALOT OF THEIR FANS GO FROM BEING TEENAGERS to changing and getting on with life and music becomes less important to some people… I don’t supppose a band like Tool cares tho, they’ve made their money. :p

younger/unfamous bands take about 1,5-2 years till they release any new material

The first two shouldn’t have released another album, same counts for Gun ‘n’ Roses. As for Tool, the album they released is yet again pure quality, and well worth the long wait. It probably wouldn’t have been so fantastic if they’d release an album every year.

As for Greenday, I’ve nothing against them, but I think it’s good they don’t release too much albums, they all sound pretty much the same

well, but you have to think, in those days they released everything on vinyl. a album was not longer that about 30minutes. it was probably shorter than that!
i can imagine that bands used some recorded songs for the next record, as well. why not?

nowadays, a album should approximately 50minutes long. at least that’s what many people think… i don’t really care about that, as long as the quality is good! many of my favourite bands have albums under 40 minutes.

although i didn’t know he’s already dead :(

i once bought a 2cd compilation, but the quality is so fucked up, that i can’t really listen to it. it’s always the same with these moneymaker-albums by old artists… you know, when some cheap labels buy the rights to release the songs, but they don’t even try to remaster it…
but i noticed there’s some really good stuff on it, although you’re right. a lot of his songs sound similar. i guess boom boom boom was his biggest hit

Biggest problem is, with so many albums out, it’s hard to know whether you’re getting an original, or just one of the compilations. :/

And as for Axl having a “wank”…16 years is a long time he must be trying to get into the Guiness Book Of Records for the longest Tantric Chicken Choke!

With bands taking so long to release an album, new acts and sounds come and it can damage a groups following, fans can “forget” pretty quick.
Andy said he regrets releasing Semi-Detatched so long after
Infernal Love. I think that damaged Therapy?’s following.
It took them out of the spotlight for too long.

And I’m glad some bands make their albums using lots of time ‘cos it’s pretty hard to buy every bloody record with prices hitting the skyline. :D
