Things have been busy I hope I’m not the next victim of the WOM purgues :( but fair play to you Rene something had to be done about the bickering and I’m glad I won’t have to scroll through the crap that has been said on here the last few months (included a few bad one’s myself) for a month anyway.

Thank you

Teethgrinder, can you assure me that warnings are given before your rather ruthless despatching of transgressors? i’m getting slightly nervous here :)

No worries, mr self destruct.

Colin? has had at least four warnings and has been given plenty of time to clean up his act. I can assure you we’ve been very forgiving with him, but he took ignoring our requests just a step too far.

I don’t think I need to clarify the situation on Suz and johnny_knoxville, but they too have been warned before being banned (johnny_knoxville has been ‘upgraded’ from temporarily to permanent in the mean time).

I realise I might have come across slightly dictatorial in the last two days, but no one will be banned without clear warning (except for the obvious commercial spammers) and clear reason, and I am determined to keep the number of new banned people to an absolute minimum (preferably to the three there are now).

There will always be a warning first, even several if it’s not anything too serious, before being banned. The WoM’s been around for 7,5 years now and the number of people permanently banned (apart from the earlier mentioned commercial spammers) can be counted on two hands.

If we can all just get along, and try to stay on the right side of the line between taking the piss of each other and being offensive it’ll all be good.

I can’t really say it any better than the guidelines already do: “You must at all times respect other members and their opinions, no personal attacks or insults. Of course healthy discussion is encouraged and disagreements to be expected but be reasonable and make your point politely.”

Pip is actually a very good example of why you can be assured everyone will get sufficient warning. He said some things which were clearly inappropriate. His comments were removed and he received a warning. He took it on the chin, apologised and we all moved on.

This must be kind of new as I’ve known to have problems and have reported many a time and all I got back was either no reply or one that just said hit ‘ignore’ regarding a person/s or subject matter.
Not that I’m moaning Rene at all, maybe its also a good idea that people know about this more, maybe they won’t be so careless in the long run.

Andy, while I don’t know which specific situations you are referring to, I think in general the suggestion to ignore certain users and threads can be a valid one, and one we’ve made more than once to different people.

The solution to a problem between people is not necessarily to delete posts or ban someone, and that’s not what I meant when I said I’d deal with any inappropriate things that were reported to me. More often than not it’s just a matter of two people getting on each others’ nerves while not violating any of the rules, and thus the only solution is just to ignore one another.

If I’m in a room with people in real life, and there’s someone I don’t like, I’m not going to sit next to them and have a chat. I’d find someone else who I like talking to.

If there have been cases where you’ve e-mailed about a problem, and you did not receive a reply, I apologise.

No its fine Rene, I mean I don’t take this things to heart, at the end of the day, I’m originally here to connect with like minded fans and to stay posted with my favourite band. I think thats all that matters and what should to people, especially when they have had more than one warning like you’ve already said.

I would have to check with Sarah, but I think you don’t have to worry. Like mrs h said, you would’ve remembered receiving any serious warnings. The most important thing is that you don’t receive any in the future, and that’s entirely up to you :-)

I’m in total agreement with everything this topic stands for - if not every post that has been made.

There is a fine line between friendly banter between friends (Dennis and Taunty Dan for instance) and tit for tat bickering (Coli? and johnny_knoxville)

The reason I became so involved with the WoM was because it was so laid back, so open and so welcoming. The last month or so has got on my tits because some members have been milking clearly volatile situations and stirring things up nastily. This has put me off the WoM and if I am not checking the WoM, I am not checking the website, which means I won’t find out about any Therapy? news, which in turn means that everyones favourite band will die a death as the web is the only press that T? gets.

In stamping out this peurile and childish behaviour early, the admin guys have rescued us from watching therapy? go down the pan - thanks.

AS for the high profile members who have recieved bans - I hope your time off will give you time to reflect on why you’re missing out, and when you get back give you the experience to avoid similar problems in the future.

Thanks Rene, Sarah, S’mum.

After seeing some of the banning threads, I’d just like to take this opportunity to point out what a wonderful job the Administrators do here at the Wall of Mouths (Rene and Sarah take a bow !)

[And to those of you who think I’m just trying to build up good will, in case I ever get in trouble…shame on you! ] :p

They are two of the best out there, and work quite hard to keep the WOM a friendly place to visit!
They are always friendly and responsive and overall run a great board.

[sniff..sniff…what’s that smell?]

I just want them to know what a good job they are doing keeping the WOM safe for all of us guidelines following persons. so… Here, Here!

I’ve noticed a disturbing trend everyone that’s banned is Irish :( and I’m on my final warning(I think) I like Colin? although he is a bit of a hot head but that’s only if he’s whound up by certain people(They know and you know who they are) but he’s young and I know if I was his age I’d be really pissed off by some things that were said, maybe us young? Irish have a really bad temperment I don’t know but I like being able to post on this site I like the warmth shown by people here and that the majority of us have something instantly in common i.e the love of a certain band I hope that when these people come back they would have grown up abit and show a bit of respect to everyone.

Have a nice day :)

The ‘banned’ thread has been removed. It was a useless poll, and it didn’t add anything to the discussion. If anyone’s got something important to say on the subject, do it here.

To clarify the situation on the banned members - johnny_knoxville has been banned permanently for registering a new account during his temporary ban, after being explicitly told not to. Suz is temporarily banned until May 1st. Colin?’s temporary ban has been extended until May 28th for registering a new account during his temporary ban. He wasn’t banned permanently due to mitigating factors.

Thanks to those who like the way Sarah and I do our job here. It doesn’t get you any special favours, but it’s appreciated nonetheless :-)
