oh mate mate mate!! you shouldn’t give folk credit for plodding on shitfully! give them credit after they’e fucked off for a few years and come back with something worth listening to!!!! :D If you have to hmmm and ponder over a song then fuck me, give up! if it don’t make you go “FUCKING HELL THIS IS AMAZING!!” then its probably not worth it. And this, dear wombles, isn’t. Its dull dull dull. But well done to jimmy bradfield for losing a bit of weight. :)

He looks extremely gorgeous now, doesn’t he? :D

If you go to the “video” section of the Manics’ official site, you can see a clip of them rehearsing Sleepflower (from “Gold Against The Soul”), presumably for inclusion in the new tour.

Gawd Almighty…!

James, James, James, it might help if you had listened to the song at any point since you recorded it over a decade ago!

I mean, I know from experience that the whole point of rehearsing is to help you relearn songs, but, jaysis…

I guess he has. I’ve seen him play the song live on youtube. The video didn’t seem to be from back when the song was still new.

I know it is a recent clip, I wasn’t suggesting otherwise, what I was trying to say was that the way he was singing it was like someone who had no idea how the song goes - he seemed to be struggling to remember how the words fit into each line. Maybe not, maybe he just wants to sing it differently and I am wrong!

It was only removed recently, wasn’t it? Only a few months ago in fact, unless my memory has completely gone…

I agree - definitely one of their stronger efforts of late.

Title: God Save The Manics EP

Does anyone out there have the God Save The Manics EP that they offered for free download a couple of years back?

I didn’t have the facilities to download it at the time, so I’d appreciate any kind WoMble who would send me the mp3s of the three tracks.

(NB with reference to emailing mp3s and all that copyright malarkey, I only ask in this instance as a) the songs are deleted and b) they were offered FREE OF CHARGE in the first place)

Please…?

Pretty please…?

Anyone…?

that’s a good little EP that. if you sent an SAE into a certain manics site at the time you got sent it on a proper cd. i believe it was also given away at the end of the PPF tour on the final night in london. apparently they were just left out in the foyer hence some people robbing armfuls of them and selling them for extortionate prices on ebay. bastards… clever bastards mind.

Some very good standout tracks.

Send away the Tigers is like ” waving not drowning ” but catchier ( imo )

Underdogs we all know.

Indian Summer is very catchy.

I’m Just a Patsy is also very catchy.

Rendition could have been on EMG. Sounds like a catchier version of All Surface No Feeling - one of the best songs in AGES

Imperial Bodybags is almost a glam rock stomp - very catchy indeed.

All in all. Easily the best album since EMG.

Very Pleased :D Hope the next one is just as good. :D

I saw their Cologne gig from two weeks ago on telly yesterday and have to say I’m not impressed (even though James and Sean looked fucking GORGEOUS. Ahem.) - the new stuff sounds like Oasis circa Be Here Now. Pub Rock. Yawn. Well, except Autumn Song. That one was quite nice. Must be the strings.

And they played You Love Us at the start - that’s just WRONG!!!! (We could discuss the point of playing it at all these days really, since it just felt pathetic.)
There were some highlights though: Freedom Of Speech Won’t Feed My Children, From Despair To Where, PCP and Design For Life. Everything else just sounded bland, sounded bland, sounded blaaaaand. And soulless. And if those two clowns at the side of the stage are meant to fatten up the sound, it doesn’t work.

Last point before I’ll stop my rant: The audience. Just old geezers (okay, and three girls in cheerleader outfits saying “Team Wire”) - I think that says a lot. And with old I don’t mean people like us here, just so you know! [/rant]

I think they’re better off doing their solo stuff now. James is far more credible being a singer/songwriter nowadays than being in a rock band. Why be in denial?

Apparently, they’re gonna play Born To End (0ff Generation Terrorist) on the tour…what an odd choice!

I agree with Squall’s description of the album.

I know the band will never do an album as vital or as important as their earlier work, but this album is much better than I had dared to hope. Hence I am now kicking myself for not getting tickets to their Wolverhampton gig. D’oh!

@dennis : where the hell did you hear they were going to play “born to end”? that would be great. and sleepflower aswell. and then they’ll play you stole the sun again just to fuck it all up.

what i’ve heard of this album is really good. not a classic by any means, but at least now when i look someone in the eye and say “yes, i think the manics are good”, i’ll know i won’t be lying anymore.

next tuesday i will be seeing them in cambridge. yee, and indeed, haw.

Nicky Wire said it in this month’s Classic Rock magazine.

He mentioned three songs they’re working up:

Born To End, Sleepflower and Freedom Of Speech Won’t Feed My Children (didn’t realise, but they’ve only played the last one once before, or so he says).

EDIT: and spot on about the atrocity of a song that is You Stole The Sun From My Heart…what a load of cack that song is/ was/ always will be!

@dennis: they played freedom of speech won’t feed my dyson the other week at a german festival. and i’ve now seen the rehearsal of them trying to do sleepflower on the website. so possibly born to end may get a look in. perchance wire isn’t talking bollocks as per usual.

i know for a fact that they’ve played freedom of speech at least once because i saw them play it at brixton on the KYE tour. to be honest, it’s not a song they should bring back, but anything has to be better than the usual old set list.

if they’re the only three surprises i get, i’ll be upset now, WITH YOU. you have been warned. ;)
