Neon Bible - too weird?

#

Started by Citizen Erased (confused again)

Is buying someone a copy of the novel ‘Neon Bible’ for their birthday a good idea on the grounds that they liked the Arcade Fire album named after it?

(Before changing the message boards’ software in August 2007 this discussion contained a poll, which may return in the future)

Well, it was written by a very troubled sixteen year old who would later go on to kill himself at the age of thirty because he couldn’t come to terms with his sexuality and domineering mother. Yeah, I’d say it’s a good present for any Therapy? fan :D

If they don’t want it post it to me and I’ll refund the cash - it sounds fascinating!

Well, if they like the Arcade Fire album then it’s still a smart idea. Confederacy of Dunces is the work that guy is really know for though

Nor me

But seriously - I think theyre just an average indie band.

The press seems to think - shit singing and big songs = greatness.

Like Flaming Lips = Also SHIT.

I like their first EP and loved Funeral. But Neon Bible hasn’t grabbed me quite as much. No Cars Go was originally on their self titled EP, and the Neon Bible version is nowhere near as good. Way too over produced.

It is a moot point - the person in question has said that she doesn’t like books with downbeat endings.

So now I need some new ideas for a fantastic present that costs up to £10!

I thought maybe running socks as she’s doing her first 10k this summer. Is that too much like underwear?

Well if you’re all going to say socks is rubbish, then I need GOOD ideaas - not a rash or her husband will be after me, somewhere behind my g/f - she’s a good friend but not THAT good a friend.
