is there any band in your home country that rocks as hell but still hasn’t been discovered by the (international) masses?

Hmm, odd, I thought I had given a reply yesterday. Anyway, let’s try it again: my favs are Travoltas (Beach Boys meets Ramones) and Undeclinable (punk in the early days, more poppy on their last album).

There’s an Irish band called ‘TURN’ whop are pretty fucking good.

I’d recommend their mini-albums “Check My Ears”, “Another Year Over” and “In Position”, as well as their album “Antisocial”.

They kinda sound like a heavier Jeff Buckley.

The Isle of Man’s not known for producing great bands… i think our last one was the Bee Gees, and people don’t really want to draw attention to that… We’ve got some great unsigned bands, but i doubt if any of them will get anywhere.

English music - I have guilt that all we seem to produce the evil “The” bands and Coldplay. Joy of effing joys. I’m sure there are some decent bands out there but I’m damned if I can think of any.

do you like eläkeleiset(or however this is spelled)?
one of the band members used to teach me some finnish back in ‘98 when they played our town:

snapsi
posti
skippi(correct spelling?)
haisa vittu!

by the way: at the moment my favourite german bands are pyogenesis and the punkles.

as far as i know they got good airplay when ‘when do we start fighting’ came out, esp in london. unfortunatly, bands like seafood don’t even seem to care about being great outside the uk. otherwise they’d find a way to go play overseas, wouldn’t they.
i have mates both in switzerland and italy and they say idlewild have never headlined their own gig. they’ve been there supporting big bands (i.e. placebo and coldplay), which has never helped them gettin famous.

i’d say liberty 37 deserve to be known too.

From Ireland (and France and Italy as well) Cyclefly should be much bigger than they are. Their last album was seriously underpromoted even though they rock! Check out ‘Crave’ and ‘Generation Sap’ - seriously class albums. The Driven are another class act although they seem to self destruct all too easily

I wouldn’t call all of these bands favorites, but i think that they deserve to be heard from an international public, they’re much better than well known bands.

Closer (indie)
Wizzy Noise, Triplex (psytrance)
Homo Iratus (deathcore)
Necromantia, Deviser (black metal)
Cherouvim, Starchildren, Space Odyssey, Cyan (uplifting trance)
Active Member, Terror X Crew -aka TXC- (hip hop)

if you are into any of these genres try these bands out.

Yes, they are from Finland and the are “The Rasmus” nowadays (because there is a disc-jockey named Rasmus in Sweden). I have a few of their albums, they make great music but I’m not a big fan, just like to listen to them once in a while.

Waltari is a great live band! It’s a pity that they don’t do gigs anymore as they used to do. They made a few years ago an acoustic tour and I have to say that it was great.

I really like Eläkeläiset (their website is http://www.humppa.com but it is in finnish), they are funny band. We say them at Provinssirock festival last summer. They played in a large-tent and there was a long, long line in the crowd crawling inside and outside. They are a great festival band when you have had a few (oh, well ten ;o) beers…

About those words he taught you;

Snapsi is a shot of booze in a small class (They like Jägermeister)
Posti is Post-Office
Kippis means nothing but it is said before a snapsi
You have to be careful with Haista Vittu! since it means fuck you (actually in “word-to-word” it means smell cunt)

to hear there sound check http://www.pyrrhus.be/sounds/sounds.html and it’s the first record of the latest releases.

Gorki is great as well, but their lyrics are in dutch and they’re already well known in the dutch speaking countries.

White Circle Crime Club is a nice band as well, they sound like Fugazi
