Better singles band in the 90’s: Suede or the Manics?

#

Started by Superunknown

For me these two are probably the best singles bands from the 90’s (yes, outshining Oasis). And while I love the Manics more overall, I think Suede as a singles band were just a tad bit more fantastic. Not saying albums like their debut or “Dog Man Star” aren’t worthwhile, but their singles output is just flawless (with only “Filmstar” and “She’s In Fashion” being a bit average).

so what do you think?

I’m undecided on this matter. I’m not a big fan of either band, but they both brough some good stuff out.

Trash and Animal Nitrate are really good but Design For Life actually defined something in that era…along with Common People by Pulp so the Manics win…easy.

Manics by several country miles, although the Manics’ best work was Holy Bible, which isn’t exactly crammed full of great singles but rather works as a cohesive whole.

Suede did about three great singles and a load of shite.

One thing that can be said for both of them, though, is that in their prime they released singles that were worth buying for the excellent quality of the B-sides.

Some of the best MSP and Suede material was on the flipside on the singles, and the fact they released B-sides compilations testifies to that fact.

Still, Butler was overrated and Anderson was just shit, let’s face it.

AND The Manics toured with Therapy? - How ace would it have been to have seen that?! Whereas Suede opening for Therapy? would just have been cack on a stick.

Slightly off topic here but you’re right Dennis - Suede weren’t very exciting live.
