I think “great” is a bit flattering, but it is a little underrated. Just a little, though :D

I wonder if Wire’s view is biased by the fact that he had so much involvement in EMG compared to previous efforts.
It was certainly a strong period for the band but to say the album is their best is a bit too flattering when you consider songs like The Girl Who Wanted To Be God.

I LOVE that song!!
But still, I’d go for THB anytime.

The Manics are one of the most frustrating bands around. For Me Guy has hit the nail on the head, this time next year SATT will be largely forgotten, and for why? Because, in my opinion, Manics fans try to make themselves like recent albums.

I agree. Been there, done that. Same as with other bands.

Re the live thing - i’m glad i’m not the only one who thinks that! I really wanted to get into it but despite a great setlist it all seemed a bit forced and cabaret.

That’s exactly what I thought when I saw that TV broadcast a few weeks ago (and I said the same as you about the audience, actually, so - yeah.)

I never say never but i’m pretty sure i won’t be bothering with the manics too hard in the future. Weird, they were my favourite band for 5 years, I listened to THB twice a day for most of that and still think its an incredible album. It will always be my number 1 album but to be honest i think i’d prefer them all to move on. JDB should build his solo career, Sean should become musical director of a panto and Wire should shut the fuck up and tend to his vegetable patch! ;)

Send Away The Tigers while lacking any real stand out Manics classic songs is an alright album.Much better than their few albums.I can’t stand Winterlovers though.

Has anyone hear Instrumental? Its a cover of an 80’s indie band called The June Brides,it’s a really good cover and much better than anything on the new album.

Autumnsong is great - i’m not big on the Manics anymore but might break the habit of a lifetime and buy the single!

The picking on “*something* comrades” is a little too similar to his very own (& very beautiful) “don’t look back”, though.

i much preferred the b-sides to YLAINE. they’re just about the only band that i would even consider buying a single by anymore.

i hope the december tour is good. they said on the mailing list recently that they’ve been practicing 1985, australia, the masses, she is suffering and slash n burn for the tour as well as some acoustic oddities from james.

however, it is likely that the wire is bullshitting.

I hate that attitude whereby if your fave band releases one album you dont like - you never listen to them again :D

Well i have off and on phases with the Manics the new album is decent enough i’m sure i’ll get round to buying it eventually. With the Manics there’s been to many half arsed albums rather than one bad one.

For anyone who’s interested you can ask the band a questionand if it’s printed in Q magazine you get £25.

After having finally heard the “Autumnsong” B-Sides, I can only wonder why JDB managed to record a much better album all by himself. It seems the Manics are dragging him down at this point. “The Great Western” and most of its B-Sides was first class material, from the latest Manics output I only find the two singles, “Send Away The Tigers” and “Fearless Punk Ballad” worth listening to more than just a few times.
