Go on then - personally I think the humour in this strand has helped prevent a very sensitive issue getting overheated, but there’s still a lot of sensible points made. Most of the jokes don’t appear to have been malicious or overly critical so I don’t think that they’ve trivialised the issue too far.
As for other recent strands, the sex ones were inherently funny, as suits the subject matter (or is that just me?) and the new drummer/cup of coffee one was not a serious subject to get upset about.
So, as someone who may [ahem] have made the ‘occasional’ less than serious comments, sorry if you think they’ve been out of place. The insights into other people’s views on things like the fireman’s strike
are worthwhile reading, but then so are the jokes. Life is a mix of the serious and ridiculous, and underwear and all the rest has a place.
Personally, I was horribly shocked to hear about the attacks in Kenya yesterday, but I really feel that if you can’t laugh at life, then the bad people, the extremists and bigots and meglomaniacs have already won. Whilst I wouldn’t make a joke at the expense of the victims, I’ll take the piss out of the perpetraitors as long as I’m still breathing, because then they haven’t won, they haven’t beaten me. And I suspect a lot of people on this board feel the same.
So, lighten up, but also sorry if you thought things were too glib.
The ducks thing really was funny though.

I agree with everyone. Seriousness and silliness have never been mutually exclusive, it’s the human way of dealing with serious topics. Personally, i think everyone has been very restrained and have put forward some good arguments, without resorting to petty namecalling or anything. Go out and have a discussion with your friends and see how long you can say the same thing for - i bet someone will make a joke within the first five minutes of a serious subject being broached. If they don’t, you need to find some new friends.
As for your ducks… well, if i had 15 babies then even running off with a Canadian would probably sound tempting.

I live in the city with the highest crime rate in the Netherlands, In that city I live in the roughest part,” the old west” nicknamed The Wild West, due to shooting incidents, I myself am practically the only white walking on the streets over there, and still I feel comfortable…I guess it is just the way you look at it, but then again I’m easy to please!

Well. yeah, the western society has spread over the world and plunder everything for money. Now we feel strange that people come here and like to ‘live better’. But that’s just a global thought of course.
I think we need to level the econonmy, that’s probably the only solution. So fair trade is a good option.
Oh, and I’d love to hear your soloution for the Israel conflict. :D
There probably is none but here’s mine (you can laugh). I forbid all parents to pass over their religion and hatred to their children.
