I’m glad it didn’t turn out to be Jude Law :) I’m looking forward to this, I like Anton Corbijn’s work and Samantha Morton’s in it.

Cool! They featured in 24 hour party people too, but that was a big steaming pile of poo - thanks to the one dimensional Steve Coogan :)

WHAT?! Great film! Sure Coogan is a one-trick pony, but it’s a funny trick.

24 Hour Party People was an enjoyable film to watch, but I must say I took it with a pinch of salt.

I was watching a Jam DVD the other day, with a clip of Tony Wilson introducing them on TV back in the late 70’s…my God what a dickhead he was then. And now, presumably, when he’s not busy presenting game shows that bomb and disappear without a trace after the first series. If they make it that far.

Am I ranting? Oops! As you were! :D

hmmm. i’m not too sure if i will be able to sit through a whole film directed by anton corbijn. his video’s and photography are always good but i’m thinking it might get a little bit arty farty in places for a film. and no one will ever be able to get ian curtis portrayed as well as sean harris in 24 hour party people. incidentally the only thing that steve coogan has ever been in (without the aid of chris morris) which i didn’t have to stop watching after two minutes of watching the twat.

I for one, will be wanting to see this film. I’ve read Touching from a Distance, and I hope it doesn’t end up as a art house release. Joy Division’s audience were/are bigger than that.

24pp Is one of my fav films… I thought it got across the bands well didn’t take itself too seriously while getting the facts and the legends true or not out there. It was really funny IMO.
After seeing stuff with Tony Wilson in real life you sort of think that’s where Steve based his Alan character from.

It’s one of my favourites as well, really good performances and funny as fuck. The DVD is worth getting as it has short interviews with a lot of the people connected to the scene (Shaun Ryder appears half dead in his clip).

I read the other week that New Order have split up again…not bothered by that though as I’ve never really been a fan.

The little preview clippy thing I saw looked very promising, think this could be a very special film indeed.

Erm…I forget - sorry!…Think it was on YouTube, although it was basically an interview with Anton Cobijn, so most of it was in Dutch - just a few small clips of the film.

Try googling for it, you may find it.

24 Hour Party People is basically the Factory Records myth according to Tony Wilson. So quite a bit of it isn’t factually accurate and some of it is totally ridiculous! But it does give a flavour of the scene at the time and Steve Coogan plays Wilson really well IMO. I’m looking forward to the JD film as I think it will portray them in the appropriate atmosphere (no pun intended!) and hopefully tell the warts and all story of Ian Curtis, as depicted in his wife’s book.

Bugger, is it out now then?!

Think it’s probably a “wait for the DVD” jobbie for me though, cos I can’t see mrs dennis sitting through a film like that at the cinema, and going to a Joy Division film on my own is surely the definition of sadness?

I will definitely hunt down the film, but in the meantime did anyone see that documentary about Factory Records? I always thought that the Joy Division singles were so beautifully packaged because it was part of the soon-to-be corporate image of Factory. It turns out it was just because they didn’t have a clue what they were doing. They sealed them in plastic because they didn’t know where to start with making ordinary sleeves! :D

You don’t have to hunt it down, mrs h - it’s on at the Vue cinema (The Light) in Leeds city centre.
