Indeed. Dont know why all the hate for VR.
They have some quality tunes.
They are no way in the same league as Libertines or Babyshambles or The Klaxons, who are all fucking AWFUL.…oh and I suppose the intro riff is nicked from Sister ? ?

I don’t hate them - as musicians thay all have an impressive back catalogue. I just think VR make horrible music.
They lack any real spark for me. It’s kind of music by numbers, unoriginal, generic, uninspiring, standard fayre which could have written by any number of 8th rate rock bands. There are hundreds of bands churning this shit out and most of them will never make it.
If you like them go enjoy but not for me.

no i don’t think they’re good, i think they’re fucking GREAT. I think Dohertys given the british music scene a massive kick up the arse. Whereas velvet revolver, well…if folk didn’t know slash and duff were part of it they wouldn’t give them a second look.

I heard Babyshambles on Jools and was appaled that they were given a record deal :p
None of them can play or sing if their life depended on it :p
I suppose that’s the point ???
Well, sorry If I sound old fashioned but I like my musicians to have at least SOME playing and singing ability :D

And I don’t understand this thing you have where people have to be technically brilliant musicians to make music.
Squall, music is about freedom of expression, you don’t need to play or sing well to be an artist.
The sad thing is that as you “like your musicians to have SOME singing and playing ability” then you’re missing out on so much. And no amount of smiley faces at the end of every sentence is gonna change that.

Velvet Revolver are technically very good.
However, their songs are bland and they have no spark and all that technical ability is completely wasted.

Slash has been in rehab as recently as last year, which means that he may in fact have “been a junkie” more recently that Doherty, who is apparently doing quite well with his latest programme to kick the drugs, or at least that’s what the judges at his court sessions seem to believe.

I think VR are ok… they really go for it live. The sad thing is - you shouldn’t think a rock n roll band are ok! But if it gets squall on his high horse it’s worth a debate! :D
Although I have to agree on this one - Pete Doherty is a shit bag who can’t write a good tune if his life depended on it. The only reason he bacame famous is cos he got loads of NME journo’s to come to his flat and share his drugs, which resulted in a ‘scene’ based around ‘having it’, lots of hype and chatter and little quality or depth.
It’s all about who you know, people! ;)

I read less than two months ago on the BBC news web site that Doherty was arrested again for possession.
Where did you hear Slash was in rehab last year? I’m pretty sure that if ‘he was’ then it’s more likely to have been for alcohol as he has a weak heart due to it stopping, three or four times…

My problem with VR, is that while they are all technically great musicians, and Weiland is a rock god, they seem to be doing it for the wrong reasons. I feel its more to do with making a few quid, rather than for the music.
If you say, compared them to T? they are a million miles away. Andy and the boys still obv love it and do it for the music (otherwise they would have disappeared when the “fame” went), VR on the other hand seem to be flogging a dead horse.

I think thats a bit unfair really. You need to earn a living don’t you? I bet T? would love to be laughing all the way to the bank… and how can you be sure that if VR hadn’t ‘made it’ they would give up? They might have done a T? and carried on regardless because they love it.
I think its Axl Pose who is flogging the dead horse - after their laughable performance at Download last year when Axl was acting like it was still 1992!

its in Classic Rock magazine this month, he said he “went on a smack binge” about 10 months ago. Anyways, i’m not interested in a debate about who’s the better junkie!

Izzy left just after Use you Illusion I & II was released, slash some time after they released their cover of the stones songs, Duff and Matt left around the same time shortly after - besides it took axl 10 fucking years to get a band together after that

No, all the members left because they couldn’t put up with him - Dave Navarro, Bucket Head to name a few.
There was a documentary on VH1, that gave a pretty detailed over view of what happened, and what kind of guy Axl is, or was - it interviewed a fair amount of people, besides I’ve read the same ‘overview’ of the situation in guitar/music mags to - I’m pretty sure it could of been a conspiracy though
Yeah your right, those bands toured extensively in the 10 years
