Transfer VHS to DVD (on PC)

Hey,
I’ve gotten sick of my standalone dvd burner, which I was hooking up to my video player, to transfer my vhs T? stuff to dvd. The results were sometimes quite pixelated, especially from the older poorer quality video tapes.

I finally invested in a good quality PC, and I’d like to do it right and transfer the videotapes properly to dvd.

Can anyone recommend a good package I should buy?

I always used Win-DVR to rip the video, to burn to DVD I used Nero, you can make basic menus with that… lately it only took my computer 6 hours to burn a dvd, (and since a good standalone dvd-recorder was still cheaper than a new PC, …)

Since last week I started ripping my videos with my standalone and transfer them to PC (my boyfriend’s, which is quite a bit faster than mine) and make menu’s with DVD-Lab, you can make very professional menu’s with it! Very nice program! :)

@ Kill Hill: If you succeed, any chance you’re interested in a trade?

- A scart-block where you can plug in an S-video cable and a sound cable (2 plugs, white (or black) and red)
- an S-video cable
- a soundcable (male) white or black and red on one side and a single plug on the other side, which is black (to plug in where you would plug in your headphones)

Before you buy these things, first check if your laptop has connections for these cables.

Soul Doubt is right though - you should check what connections you have on your laptop first, there are lots of ways of wiring stuff up, you can always get adapters to fit what you have.

I had a ‘monster cable’ attached to the tv card, and then I could plug either a VCR, DVD or camcorder directly into the monster cable.
