6 degrees of inner turbulence
train of thought
octavarium

all of which are amazing albums

Nobody needs that much !!!

And the singer sounds like a cat being trod on in slow motion :D

Fantastic musicians,

Have all of their albums and tonnes of respect - a band for musicans to go and see.

They even played master of puppets from start to finish without breaking a sweat.

Squall, unlike Mr. Hetfield, James LeBrie can at least still sing and does not sound like a cat being choked :D

If you had ever seen Mike Portnoy play live you would understand why he needs all that shit - he actually uses it.

Systematic Chaos is a beast of an album.

Well,

If you rate a band on an old ballad, of course you are going to find it cack, like 1 + 1 = 2.

There latest vid can be viewed here:

I think it is fairer to judge them based on this and I say it now, if you aren’t into prog don’t waste your time, same way I steer clear of anything labled punk.

So, if I only knew Therapy?’s Diane video I would think they are duo consisting of Andy and some cello player…

Exactly!

lookout for their new single ‘constant motion’ its one of their heaviest yet, sounds a little bit like metallica, imo.

You’ve not been too bright here have you? You’ve just proved the point for me yourself! That was the first thing I came across yeah? So of course you would be forgiven for thinking T? was just Andy and a cello player from Diane… just as I have found DT to be shit from one terrible ballad from the past!

Proven what point?

By the Therapy? example I am merely stressing that you shouldn’t base your judgement on one song as that is quite moronic.

The same goes for basing an opinion of DT on the track Surrounded (a song which I also don’t like - to be honest, I don’t like any of their ballads).

I included the link of their latest track as it gives a more realistic account of what they are about musically.

So tell me, what drugs are you on or am I missing something here?

buffalo-boy, if you want to avoid as many ballads as you can, listen to: 6 degreess of inner turbulence, systematic chaos or train of thought

those albums are the heaviest DT have ever made, if they dont change your mind then fair enough, each to their own.

For heaviness I would definitely say “Train of thought” and “6 Degrees of inner turbulence”.

I think my fav would be “Images and Words”.

Otherwise would totally recommend “Scenes from a Memory” or “Systematic chaos”.

Found “Falling into infinity” and “Octavarium” the weak links so far.

I don’t know what it is about their ballads but I always find myself skipping them. I guess they probably just seem too simple after listening to their full blown prog tracks.

ahh come on !! The first impression is so often the important one in so many ways in life. You get a felling if you like it/someone/a band, etc if you like it or not on first sight. The last and first time I heard anything from Dreamtheater was as KJC torture my ears with them. God knows how long ago that was. And the first thing I realized was this awful singer, so I totaly dislike them. That and the fact that KJC liked them :D After all I didnt know that they still exist !!

That they can play their instruments is fact. But there are so many Bands that can play but suck either !!

I think they are crap :)

Ah, my good friend - torturing eachother in the 90’s was all the craze, you got your revenge by torturing me with Smashing Pumpkins - Does Billy Corgan sound neutered or what?

Each to their own bro, I consider us even after that ;)

Thankyou! For me - They suck. Is that allowed? Please let me not like them KJC. Please? Because I don’t. If you would like a well balanced argument as opposed to just an opinion then I would have to say that the music sounds like examples from a book on playing Metal guitar all stuck together into long, dull songs and that guys singing is absolutely the most horrendous, cheesy, outdated howl I have ever had to waste my time on in my life. Just to appease you I listened to alot of their other stuff and I’m certain they are bollocks. Is that good enough for you, sir?

opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. My only point was that basing your opinion on one tune is absolute bollocks and I stick to that. Sorry if that is too tricky to understand.

You checked them out thoroughly now and you still don’t like them, fair play to you - a person can’t like everything.

I permit you to dislike them now
