Pretty good on first listen , just typical Foo’s really. Which is usually a good thing

The first two were the best and then a couple of iffy ones and then In Your Honour was good again.

The new album is from the same producer as Colour & Shape, Gil Norton, who also worked with Pixies if im not mistaken.

yep he produced it alright. was mad into Nirvana when i was a lad and the Foos was my first gig back in 1995 in Dublin. Loved the first record, everything about it, the paper, artwork, the songs, production and the fact that Dave did 99.9% of the instruments. Was disappointed with the follow up, some fine songs on there but there was also far too much cheesy bollox in there as well. Didn’t like the production either, far too glossy. Went looking for the 1st record a few weeks back but its gone AWOL from my collection, balls. The reissue of the 1st one has cheap shiny paper, booooooo!!!!!

I like Gil Nortons Production, i liked the Colour and the shape and the mixing on Pixies albums he did. He does go for a glossy sound very clean which is cool, he did it with the last Distillers album… you can reconise his work straight away. It does some really interesting stuff when he mixes he showed us at a lecture at uni very unique things that i try to do when i mix stuff, i will stop now as i will just go technical and boring.
Anyway the more i hear the new song the more i like it, if the whole album is of this standard or better then i will be happy… they seem to have found a crunchier guitar sound at last which has been lacking for a while now.

I never said he did mix the foos album… i liked his production on it… it’s the Pixies albums that i liked the mixes.. but saying that, he never actually does much mixing he has an engineer and sort of backseat mixes.
But Sheldons Mix on the Color and The shape I thought was also really good… he does some interesting stuff as well, mix wise… shame he can do some shocking mixes as well.
