I think having the “all categories” drop down menu down by defualt would help newbies or visitors find their way around a little better. I’m fine with the way it is, it’s just if I was a newbie, I’m not sure I’d stay for long if I couldn’t find sections.
Just an idea, like I say.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but on the old board you could click on “last post” to go directly to the last post in any particular thread. I can’t find a way to do this with the new layout - I used to find this a very useful tool, so if it could be incorporated that would be marvellous.

Ok folks, a couple of small updates to the boards.
1. I’ve added a bit more space between posts, to help tell them apart.
2. I’ve made the text and link colours a bit stronger for better readability.
3. The total number of messages posted by a user is displayed on each post.
4. The buddy icons now link to a person’s profile.
Thanks for the new comments/suggestions, guys, keep ‘em coming.

It’s actually quite a good photo when you see the original. Unfortunately, the automatic resizing has squashed it so that my head looks round instead of my actual oblong, droopy, gormless shape.

That’s correct, Grant. Check out the updates I posted a few posts earlier.
I’ve just reintroduced the Who’s Online feature in a basic form. The people who were already online during the update won’t be visible until their next visit.

You could have a slight difference in shading for each post, a slightly grayer one for every other to help seperate peoples posts and maybe make it less bright if people are finding it a problem?
I know I have some problems trying to read this new board but that’s because of the type of dyslexia I have… it would help me… but that is a totally personal problem and solution.

Dennis - your head looks much less spherical in you new icon, don’t worry.
(What would have been funny though is if you’d denied my charge of round-headedness, and posted a photo of you and some mates as proof - in which all your mates had normal heads but yours still looked like a bowling ball).
Teethgrinder - any chance of a “hide online status” for furtive surfing?

I second such a motion and it would help with the whole brightness thing :-)

When viewing a list of discussions, the dates in the latest post column now link to the latest post (except when there are no replies). Beware, if there are unread posts before the last post you’re jumping to, they will also be marked as read. If you want to jump to the first unread post in an updated discussion, simply click on the title of the discussion, as before.
Brought to you by the department of teeny tiny updates, the changed screen name icon is now black instead of pink, to make it stand out a little less.

You’re welcome, Dennis, glad you like it.
Other minor updates I’ve done recently are displaying the reply form directly below the last post in a discussion (instead of underneath the page links), and making the category link in the grey bar bold, to make it stand out more.

While it’s not yet ideal, I’ve just added a solution for the incorrect time issue.
You can set whether you’re currently on daylight saving time on the your time zone page in your account. It defaults to ‘yes’, as I think that’s true for most people on the boards right now. You have to manually change this when the time comes, but as this is only twice a year I consider it a big improvement over not taking DST into account at all :-)

so, first post on the new boards. I have to admit I have some troubles getting used to it…
kill_hill made some good points earlier which I don’t feel like repeating now.
Most important for me: Please change the colour scheme: It’s so bright, it hurts my eyes and makes the lines between posts visible. Fiddling with the brightness of my monitor is not an option, when everything but the WoM looks perfect.
Perhaps more to come when I can manage to stay online longer than five minutes.
