It makes me happy that more people are getting used to the new boards, and prefer it to the old ones.

Do you mean the yellow bar shown to visitors to create an account or sign in? I do like me some yellow (*ahem* Yellowtopia *ahem*), but I agree that the particular shade of the sign in bar might be a bit too bright, and will try out a different colour.

Oh, and your comment regarding the categories made my day, as that’s one of the main reasons I’ve the changed things the way I did. I always used the ‘x new posts’ link on the old boards (which was somewhat similar to the current default discussions overview), and once I marked all threads as read and returned to the homepage I found the category list very uninviting to explore further.

Can you give me some specific examples of what you dislike, so I may be able to help you using the new boards?

It is good to be able to see who likes the same things as you do, but as the only WoMble to recognise that Case Histories is the greatest book ever written is someone with only 29 posts to their name since 2001 (and who I’ve have never heard of) it’s not proving as fun as it should be.

Being able to email WoMbles was useful - are we going to get that facility back or are we stuck now with the WoMbles we’re already in contact with? *sacrifices a goat to ensure that this dreadful scenario never becomes a reality*

I’m confused.

I’m using Firefox and the new message board looks weird to me.
Colours and fonts are fine. It’s the layout of the threads that looks messy.

Anyone else using Firefox?

Rene - I’m concerned that we don’t know when any new members have joined, and so we might not be welcoming them like we used to. Maybe you could put another thread up that never moves, just for new members to say hello? It needn’t be a whole forum - just an unmoveable thread at the top so that new people can see a place to introduce themselves and everyone else can say hello if they want to.

Also when you open a thread and it tells you how many people have posted on it, it would be interesting to be able to click on the text and see a list of all the people who have been counted. I admit that’s only because I’d like to know who has posted on Gracious Me over the years, but other people might be interested with their own threads …

Private messaging, as a replacement for and improvement over the old e-mail form, is in the pipeline. Same goes for your suggestion, mr self destruct.

The sticky new members thread is something Sarah and I are debating. I agree the option to see who posted to a discussion is an interesting one, but I’m sorry to say it doesn’t have a very high priority, and won’t be added soon.

Sabotage, I use Firefox myself and it has been tested in that browser. Could you e-mail me a screenshot of a page that looks messy to you, to see what’s wrong? Grant, could you send me a screenshot of an older thread that looks messy to you, so I can see if it’s something I can fix? Thanks both for your help.

The default on the new boards is indeed seeing discussions from all categories. When you do that, every discussion title/link is followed by both the person who started it and the category it’s posted in.

Folks, I’ve just added a new feature to the boards - you can now send (private) message to other WoMbles.

Access your messages by using the ‘Your messages’ link, located at the top right corner of every page. There you will find the first message waiting for you, introducing the new feature.

Nice new feature. I liked the “tips” in your message, especially this one - though it might be rather wishful thinking:

- Have a one on one conversation with a friend, about a subject which would bore others to death. :)

I’ve just fixed a bug where deleting a message by either the sender or receiver would delete it for both the sender and receiver.

In addition I’ve added the option to archive received messages, so you can keep your inbox clean without the need to delete messages.

How to use your archive:

- Open the message you would like to archive, and click ‘Archive’ (below the message, on the right).
- To move an archived message back to your inbox, open the message from your archived messages, and click ‘Move to inbox’.

Yes, it’s to do with preventing double posts when someone clicks the submit button more than once. However, there wasn’t yet a time limit on it, creating the potential problem of unlimited edits, and I didn’t test it enough to mention it as a feature yet. This is why I’ve kept it quiet as a substitute for editing posts - until now, that is ;-) I did notice you’ve been using it, and I’ve now implemented a time limit on it (5 minutes, just like on the old boards) so everyone can use this hidden feature.

Was it? Well, I’m considering to make it even shorter, so enjoy it while you can!

Rene I think you should put the birthdays back where they were. No-one is going to remember to go and look every day to see if it someone’s birthday …
