Question for cat owners

#

Started by mr self destruct

The missus and I will be getting a new cat soon (our previous cat, a Siamese-Norse Wood Cat mix sadly died recently as the fuckers we got it off claimed it had been vaccinated for FIP when it hadn’t).

So please tell me about your cats, and which breeds you’d recommend (we’d like a sociable one).

My cat is the most sociable, friendly and easy to look after cat in the world - but he is just a moggy. Get a cat from a rescue centre - then you are doing a good deed, plus you get to spend time with it before you take it home if you’re not sure about it :)

I think we probably will, though I am tempted to get an unusual breed.

My mum keeps Persians, they’re extremely friendly (sometimes over so) and they malt and get massive knot’s in their coats so they need grooming all the time. You can defo tell the difference between a them and normal moggy in terms of temperament. Man are they nosey thought, they get in everything from the washing machine to kitchen cuboards.

My misses wants a house rabbit now, they’re fu**ing massive, easily as big as any of my mum’s cats. Can’t see the point myself cos they won’t be as affectionate as a cat would be, but then again I’ve seen some cats that’d take your mit’s of if you try to stroke them.

Well then get 2 cats from a rescue centre and embark upon your own breeding programme :)

@Auto_Surgery - rabbits can be very affectionate if you handle them a lot, but if you get a female make sure you get it spayed as they can go totally nuts and get very viscious when they want to reproduce.

Yep, we got two Persians, too, and that’s absolutely true. They are adorable, but at the same time it takes incredibly much work to keep their fur clean and you’re going to have hair all over your clothes/furniture all the time.

My folks got a kitten the other day but sadly the little fella recieved a blow to the head, probably by the dog, and I had to have him put down after a day. I cried like a little girl.

Don’t have a cat my self at the moment but when I do get one it will just be an ordinary cat. One that sleeps outside, catches mice and like to pop in for a snooze by the fire.

The problem with Persians is their price can vary hellishly - I remember my mum paying £50 for one with no papers, but then she paid £200 for one last year with papers

thats what we assume. the kit was still young and the dog would have not done it out of malace, either that the kit climed up on something and then fell on its head. Poor thing. RIP Del Boy.

The kitten in my avatar is mine for 1 day now :) We bought it yesterday, it is a thai siamese. They need a lot of attention but they give a lot of love and crazyness in return. He is getting another siamese friend in a few days. Next time i’ll most probably get a cat from a rescue centre.

He looks like a very fine kitten! I’ve heard Siamese are very intelligent and I like the look of yours…the ones with huge ears look a bit weird though!

Aww, that picture has been messed with hasn’t it? ? :)

Mine is a traditional siamese, which means it will be a little more pointy than regular cats, but not as extremely thin as most people like to breed them nowadays.
I have to say though, they talk quite a lot. :D

Nooo!!!! They don’t look sweet. They look like Mr Hanky off South Park. And I’m pretty sure it’s cruel to breed them like that - they must be freezing :(

SYDNEY (AFP) - An agitated pet cat left in a cupboard overnight turned out to be high on cocaine and benzodiazepines left over from a wild weekend dinner party, a report said Saturday.

The eight-month-old Himalayan cat arrived at a veterinary clinic with dilated pupils and a racing heart, while the owner said it had trouble walking and was easily startled, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Vets Dominic Barfield and Richard Malik, who run a clinic in the Sydney suburb of Double Bay, were unable to take blood or use a thermometer to take the cat’s temperature as it was pacing incessantly around its cage.

While the owner was adamant the cat had not been exposed to toxic plants, mouldy foods or drugs, when contacted by telephone the owner’s wife admitted the cat could have licked “plates of cocaine” which had been served at a dinner party two days earlier.

A drug screen also revealed the cat had benzodiazepines in its system.

The “remorseful” owner, who was not identified, was counselled and allowed to take the pet home, but no legal action was taken as there is no legal requirement in Australia for vets to report such cases to police.

The case was reported in this month’s edition of the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery, the newspaper said, but did not specify when the incident happened, other than that it was on a Monday morning.

um…’plates of cocaine’???????… ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
sheesh my wife and I just had to take our cat to the vet last week, he’d started to grow an extra toe at age 12! No probs, it was benign, he’s all healed up. But it was a laugh when we brought him home, he was Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh as a kite. Kept woozin’ around, and then would stare into his water dish, swat at it to make ripples, then just sit and stare at it… the vet’s assistant told us gleefully about the valium and ketamine cocktail they use… of course all I could think of was ‘…somebody please get me out of this k-hole..’ but Sprocket the cat seemed to be having the time of his life… lucky bastid…
