Honestly Grant, if you have suggested reading to be getting on with - boring as it sounds - if you can get in early and get some background laid down in your mind of the course, the general themes etc, you will save yourself a lot of time later on. Take it from someone who didn’t do it and found out to their cost!

Sorry, lecture over, as you were..

*feels old*

I might drop psychology, it’s so damn boring.

I am thinking about doing some kind of course, purely out of interest rather than for any qualifications for job or anything like that.
I want to go back and do a subject with the benefit of hindsight and (hopefully) a more mature approach to studying than I had when I was a student and just learn at my own pace cos I enjoy it not cos i HAVE to do it.

I want to delve into the world of Psychology.

So, has anyone any ideas of how a guy with a regular Mon-Fri 9-5 job can work this into his life and what courses are best to consider etc etc?

I left school early so I didn’t take any exams, but then when I was 18 I signed up for a pile of night classes and I have to say I absolutely loved them. Much smaller groups, teachers who care about the subject - it was brilliant :) You should sign up Dennis :)

@ Rob_a - I wouldn’t rush into dropping the subject, check out the second year syllabus first. Quite often the first year of a new subject can be really dull because you are learning all the ground rules and theories and stuff - you might find that the second year is much more interesting :)

That happened a lot at my 6th form. Loads of people picked psychology because they thought it would help them read peoples’ minds, then dropped it when they discovered how dull it could actually be.

I’ve got another reason for doing my course. A few years ago I was doing a creative writing class and was told by my tutor that I should do a A-Level. Been thinking about it for years and now Tuesday can’t come quick enough.

Nice one :)
My English teacher really wants me to do A-Level English, however, my timetable is full with other subjects.
When I get the other A-Levels out of the way I think I might ask my school if I can do one more year and do English and maybe Geography.
I’m doing an extra course called Personal Effectiveness :s I haven’t attended a class yet but it gets me 70 ucas points..!

LOL - what do they teach you in that, then? ‘Setting your alarm clock - level one’, ‘Moving on from velcro, a guide to shoe-lacing’ :D

Seriously, what is it?

Not at all! They should put the bit about setting your alarm clock and tying your shoelaces into the course documentation and send it out in advance. Thus enabling more people to attend. Unless there’s only Colin that’s supposed to attend?

Sorry Colin! :D
