Yes - coz thats the best album to properly highlight james Hetfields writing skills : St Anger ?

If United Abominations is really thebest album Megadeth have done in a while, then im not surprised theyre lagging behind so much.

Well the first name that comes to mind is of course Jimi Hendrix. He could play accords no one else could and plays better with his teeth than some people with their hands lol. So technically he’s he best.

My favourite, however, is Huey Morgan the Fun Lovin’ Criminal. If you’ve seen him live or heard the last album you probably know what I mean, he’s awesome at solo’s and he’s my favourite (though I’m not saying he’s the best) guitar player ‘cos he’s so damn cool.

And not to forget Michael MCKeegan of course, ‘Evil Priest’, need I say more? ;) I like to see him jumping up and down at gigs and spitting around :)

No it was Rust in Peace, and as far as guitar playing goes it crushes anything Metallica have ever done. UA is a good return to form - solid effort, great guitar playing.

UA was pop rock to me. They’ll never top Master of Puppets or The Black Album ( but mind you - Metallica wont either )

Top the Black Album? UA Pop rock? Are you on drugs???

The Black album was already topped by Countdown to Extinction. How on earth can you claim that UA is pop rock (something you would view negatively I assume?) and in the same sentence praise the Black album??? The biggest sellout in history (ask your fellow beloved Metallica fans about that one).

You just lost the last shred of credability I had for you mate (the rest was lost in your admission to liking both Load and Reload).

As for Master of Puppets, surely one of the greatest metal albums of all time I will admit, and Rust in Peace is right up their with it.

This thread is about great guitarists, I as a former thrash guitarrist have yet to meet another guitarrist who would rate the Hetfield / Hammett pairing over any pairing Dave Mustaine had in Megadeth.

Load and Reload are crap because the are a poor attempt to immitate Down. St Anger is crap because it is a poor attempt to be be Nu Metal. I have a feeling that their next album is going to be a poor attempt to be Master of Puppets - I hope I am proven wrong.

Anyways, is this the Metallica thread or what?

Pepper & Kurt are legends of shredding too btw.

also, i dont think Metallica were trying to imitate Down at all, NOLA was released in ‘95 and Load in ‘96, but Metallica spent ages making that album so how could they have tried to imitate them, unless you are thinking about Crowbar? them and Down sound similar.

Sorry for the typo.

As I said before, this is not a Metallica thread, Squall however seems to want every thread a Metallica thread and comes in with stupid dumb ass comments like above. The funny thing being that he criticizes other of the exact same thing.

As to your comment above, it is a well known fact that James Hetfield is a huge Down fan (he is sporting a Down t-shirt in the Some kind of Monster movie and has Pepper in as a guest) - you tell me why they all of a sudden tried a more sludgy, bluesy sound? Either that or it was a lame attempt to be grunge.

Of course Down will have elements of Crowbar as one of their shredders is a main song writer with crowbar.

Metallica are a bunch of sellouts who disrespected their fans back in the mid 90s and are now kissing ass again as they know that they have deliver or be gone.

Why do you think Rick is producing? Last roll of the dice I say.

No, back to guitar players, what this thread is supposed to be about - Gary Moore, a true legend.

Well, anyone who´s played guitar in Thin Lizzy can´t be nothing but true hero.
Oh my god! Lizzy is brilliant. Black Rose goes into my cd player right away.
Nothing wrong with Moore´s other performance either.

Here here. Lizzy were indeed fab and the whole Gorham, Robertson, Moore, Sykes thing is spot on.

Moore these days is still a damn fine player but over-plays everything, which is criminal in the Blues. You have to know when NOT to play, as the cliche goes.

He does overplay the blues stuff somewhat, although - has he not piped that down a bit in his old age? Haven’t listend to his last few albums.

I like Gary Moore more in his 80s metal days, class guitar playing all round. I liked his contribution to Thin Lizzy also - was only the Black Rose album, or?

I believe it is. (I may be wrong)
Isn´t there an appearance on LIFE (LIVE) also?
Before Thin Lizzy Moore and Lynott started together in Skid Row which is a band I haven´t heard.
But the other Skid Row ain´t that bad at all. Hill and Sabo are top class players.
