NMA’s x-mas gigs are somewhat traditional (started around 2000) - you can always expect a top gig with some gems in the setlist and a pretty crazy crowd from all over Europe (or rather all over the world, as the US tour was cancelled to due visa problems).
This will be good!

Anyone going? Just checked out Frankfurt Hahn´s airport site and there are buses going to Köln from there (don´t have to hire a car:)). Ryan Air is still the cheapest way to fly in Europe.
Anyone from Köln here on WOM: is there any cheap and deacent hotels in Köln with breakfast.
Have to decide next week if we´re going to travel again to see T? and yet another new city in Europe, would be a nice X-Mas trip.

vagabond : I would estimate it’ll be around 36 including booking costs, if you book up front. The funny thing with all the ticket service options tend to be that the price might get lower depending on where you get the tickets, but the booking costs will compensate so that it’s pretty much the same again. I’m guessing 32-36 no matter what you do.
In the US it’s far worse of course - there it tends to be 150% service costs over the actual ticket price. Lots of talk about ‘service’ there on the ticket. :P

‘nother thing, just to induce wariness - what exactly does the ‘special guest’ thing mean? Is T? gonna play a set, or molest NMA’s instruments on stage? There’s also an ‘opening act’ on the schedule. What does it mean? What is it all about, really?
(The gig is on the ‘Tour’ page though, so don’t get too scared by this spontaneous drivel.)

Would love to go there , I like NMA and have friends in Koln so it would normally be a no-brainer.
But I’m flying to Holland the day before that to spend a couple of days over Christmas with my family and god-children and I’m afraid it wouldn’t go down that well with them if I f*ck off to Germany for half of the time that I’m there.
Then again it is T? and NMA we’re talking about , they might understand…
Life’s a bitch sometimes.

I’d say you can expect a 45-60 min. set by T? and some 120 min. NMA.
The place to get the tickets in Germany is http://www.contour-music.de
The contour staff is very helpful.
See you there,
Andreas

Well,I used to listen a lot to “Impurity”,sometimes” The Love Of Hopeless Causes” ,which both I found good.Their Live “Raw Melody Men” very good.Maybe though never listened to them, check out “The Ghost of Cain” and “Thunder and Consolations” 2 of their earlier albums.I know that they were considered by “The Times” as the new “Clash” in the 80’s…Just listened once “Carnival” ,so I can’t give my opinion on it yet and haven’t done it for the latest one “high”…

They definitely had a touch of the old “dog-on-a-string”/ “Do you wanna buy a copy of Socialist Worker?” about them.
Now, just to make sure I have the right band, we’re talking about NMA, not NWA, aren’t we…?

All of them:
The Independent Years/No Rest for the Wicked (1984/85)- Raw and aggressive, best bass guitar playing in the world
The Ghost of Cain (1986) - more sophisticated songwriting, acoustic guitars, still pretty wild and bass-oriented
“Thunder & Consolation” (1989) - a real masterpiece.
For me, one of the best albums ever recorded.
Went gold in Germany.
Has an electric violin in some songs.
“Impurity” (1990) - Not quite as good as T&C but still VERY good.
“The Love of Hopeless Causes (1993) - Straight rock album with really great songs
“Strange Brotherhood” (1998) - The end of an era (drummer/co-writer left afterwards), most people don’t like it too much (production wise), I do ;-)
“Eight” (2000) - Good songs but bad production (IMHO)
Carnival (2004) - Very good songs, great sound, lots of (real) drum and bass
High (2007) - the new one - expect to hear about 6-8 songs from this record
As I said earlier, Cologne gigs are traditional and VERY special :-)))

Don’t worry about it, they are nothing at all like the Levellers, it’s just that dennis is off his head! ;)
They do have a folkey sound but they are pretty unique. I’m not fussed about them myself, it all sounds a bit samey to me - but to be fair I haven’t seen them live since 1982 and I understand they are supposed to have come on quite a lot since then.
