Best AC/DC Album?

#

Started by Alan

I’ve been getting back into AC/DC big-time in the past few months, the remastered digi-packs are the business!

What’s everyone’s favourite album though? I can’t list them all here (due to being limited to 10), but I’ve included the more well known ones.

I’ve gone with Powerage (also Keith Richards all-time favourite album!), just ahead of Back In Black.

(Before changing the message boards’ software in August 2007 this discussion contained a poll, which may return in the future)

I vote for Back in Black. Bon Scott is better than that Brian Johnson, but the sheer class of the songs on BIB makes up for it. If only Scott had stayed alive long enough to be on BIB :( That would have rocked!

Ah, but then you wouldn’t have Back In Black & Hells Bells!

As for Brian, I loved the Flick Of The Switch album too - the most under-rated AC/DC album, definately.

Back In Black, or Powerage, or Let There Be Rock - get those 3 first, you will not be disappointed.

let’s face it, Back in Black is gonna win by a country mile!

That isn’t to say that it is the only album worth checking out, though…

I recently-ish got into ACDC too, and have had much fun adding to my collection.

The double live album, recorded on the Razor’s Edge tour is a great “Best of” as sung by Brian Johnson.
The first few Bon Scott albums are great too.

Also, check out the Family Jewels DVD (the 2nd disc, of the Brian Johnson era, is a little dated in terms of visuals, but disc one with the Bon Scott footage is well worth investigation) and the Donington DVD.

And I’ve yet to start getting those reissues.

I went for the Razors Edge, just because that was the album that really got me into metal all those years ago. I had always had a little bit of an incling for rock, but this sealed signed and delivered it. THUNDER! Nanana nananannanana THUNDER!

I always thought that The Razors Edge & Blow Up Your Video were piss poor! Sure, they had the excellent opening tracks (Thunderstruck & Heatseeker, respectively), but the rest just weren’t up to the standard required. And the production was dreadful on both as well.

The recent reissues have vastly improved sound quality.

Yep, the sound is improved on the re-masters, but BUYV will never lose it’s 80’s sound, thanks to production values of 1988.

I thought the drums on TRE sound incredibly hollow, like a drum machine almost. It doesn’t sound raw and earthy at all.

Even 1985’s ‘Fly On The Wall’ had a cool raw vibe, which is an album slated by pretty much everyone.

Fly on the wall is a top album and Shake your foundations is my favourite song by them, the riff that starts that song off still sends shivers down the old spine:)

Yeah, I fuckin’ love the intro to “Playing With Girls” from FOTW - serious head-nodding stuff :)

The title track is deadly as well. Very good album.

Just thought I’d dig up this topic, since recently buying the new 3dvd “Plug It In” set. Anyone else get this yet?

It’s pretty much the follow up to “Family Jewels”, but concentrates more on live material than the promo stuff. I’ve only had a chance to watch it once so far, and it’s cool, but it’s a shame that the gigs are split up across the 3 dvds (the ‘Rock Goes To College’ and ‘Live Sight & Sound’ stuff, for example), it would have been nice if they put full performances in their entirity on there, like Iron Maiden did on their excellent “Early Days” dvd release.

My favourite is definitely High Voltage - plenty of class tunes on there. I most certainly preferred the Bon Scott years over the Brian Johnson ones.

Ordered myself the new DVD and can’t wait - such a great live band, am so annoyed that I have never been to one of their gigs - hope they do another world tour soon…

For those about to Rock!!! Fire!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jailbreak, there is another class tune. Haven’t listened to these guys in ages, pretty much learned to play guitar to their 5 chord tricks :)
