Bacardi says “established in Cuba” on the label but a search on the net shows they were exiled very soon afterwards. When I was there you couldn’t buy the stuff for love nor money - it’s all Havana Club over there, so support them instead if it makes you feel better.

i’m not having a go… i’m just saying what i thinkabout it.. having tried it..
vegetarians don’t want to eat meat, or anything that had a face/breathed etc.. whatever..
thats all well and good..
but why then do you have products resembling food made with meat..
ie, vegetarian sausages..vegetarian burgers..vegetarian bacon etc etc..
surely the whole point is to get away from products containing and relating to anything made with meat..
oh.. fun fact for you..
linda mcCartney’s vegetarian sausgaes.. when they first came out.. so popular with everyone…
reason???
they contained meat!!
:D

You have products that resemble meat because the way some meat is produced is useful for recipes. For example, if you want bolognaise you need some mince. Meat eaters would get their mince from beef and vegetarians would get their mince from Quorn or something.
Personally, I don’t like (or haven’t yet found a good) vegetarian food that is meant to taste the same as meat (e.g. veggie bacon) but Quorn is delicious and, I’m told, tastes nothing like meat. I’m not against vegetarian equivalents tasting of meat though - some people want to be vegetarian for health / moral reasons but find they miss the taste and I imagine meaty-tasting veggie food is ideal for them.
(Essentially what I am saying is that it exists because there is a market for it, which is what I’ve been saying about everything else too. S’all about the consumer :))

That’s not actually true. They did contain an ingredient that turned out not to be vegetarian, so although they were not actually suitable for vegetarians there wasn’t any actual meat in them. Also they were fucking foul and not at all popular!
I’m not a vegetarian, but I eat lots of vegetarian food just because I like it. I don’t have any problem with eating meat at all, but I won’t it battery hens or any meat that isn’t farm assured and/or rspca monitored. Unless I’m pissed, in which case it all goes out the window and I have to have a cheeseburger or a kebab :(

I’m vegetarian and I wear leather. As far as I see it there’s a difference between using animal products and eating meat, that’s why I’m not vegan.

I don’t necessarily say you’d have to be vegan, cos a vegan wouldn’t eat cheese or milk and neither of those involve death of the animal - I can’t really understand anyone getting worked up over a cow being milked, to be honest. Not anyone who has a life, anyway.

The “all or nothing” argument doesn’t really hold up…at least I do something about the issue, not as much as I could admittedly but better than nothing. Plus the thought of eating animal corpse is more disgusting to me than wearing my cool leather jacket.

It is odd isn’t it - I mean to be fair you wouldn’t peel an orange and then not eat it, would you? So why do it to a cow?
On the other hand Sam is spot on in that many veggies don’t do it for animal welfare reasons. I know a few who don’t eat meat because animals are so pumped full of growth hormones and precautionary antibiotics.
