Well, I think the TGerman goth scene may be even bigger than the English.
I agree even if most of known bands are from UK. And I really don’t feel as goth most of bands as goth but rather any folklore. Maybe the appropiate term for goth should be cold. I think indeed that german goth are called grufties or grüfties. Here in France it’s cold. Goth teenagers don’t really have the mind. Besides Robert Smith of The Cure has always said he ‘s never consider The Cure as a goth band and most of us agree to say Pornography is a cold album and not goth though. Perhaps they found a special look. Joy Division is a cold punk band isn’t it . I’m sorry but bands like Bauhaus , the Mission , Death in June , Dead Can Dance, etc are cold. theatre of tragedy and their likes are neither cold or goth. It’s probably because english people don’t take the meaning of goth, but us on the continent we can easily Do you know something like Einsturze Neubauten, Laibach ? Excellent .

Sure. when I discovered the stranger sides of music back in the 80s I also got into both of them.
Though I’ve never been too much into Laibach (too arty) I still love the Neubauten though their latest album is a bit weak. They seem to have turned away from their industrial roots into a more sophixticated pop.
