I also liked Atonement, Death At A Funeral, Volver, King Of California, Control and, of course, the spider pig song from The Simpsons.

Blade Runner - The final cut

seen it at the viennale-festival and got it on dvd (5disc-collecters-set) now.
it’s my all time favourite movie and i was waiting such a long time for a proper dvd-release of it!

My favourite movie of the year was Zodiac - thought this was amazing, I went to see it twice. Like The Godfather of serial killer films.

Also Inland Empire - I know it was made in ‘06 but it didn’t come out here ‘til ‘07.

Apart from that I didn’t really see anything *amazing*… just lots of 7/10s.

I thought it was a pretty average film! Watchable but not brilliant. Too long, the main character was a bit annoying, not much actually happened in it, and I didn’t really like the massive “time jumps”…why did you enjoy it so much?

the “nothing happening” was, in my opinion, the message the director wanted ot give. In those years, due to lack of communication methods, nothing was moving forward. I tought the movie was brilliant too.

^I just loved the characters - Jake Gyllenhall’s, Robert Downey Junior’s, and the two cops especially. Really quirky but believable. Great cinematography as well, and I thought it really captured the feeling of 1960s / 70s Americana… I know it was long but I think it needed to be to show how the story progressed over 30 odd years.

I also loved how at the start there’s quite a lot of graphic violence, but as the film goes on the killings and the murderer become less and less prominent and important as the focus starts to shift to the obsession of the characters instead.

Lastly *SPOILER ALERT* I think the best sign that it was a great movie is the bit near the end where Jake Gyllenhall goes to the projectionist’s house in the basement and thinks all of a sudden that he’s in danger / not alone. Both times when I was at the cinema people were literally screaming their lungs out, when there wasn’t actually anything scary on screen!

I bought this and started to watch it - never made it to the end cause I thought it was fucking terrible

Damn!! Forgot about This Is England!! Easily the best film I saw in 2007!!

Yeah, I did think the film gave an excellent sense of time and place.

Not seen Inland Empire yet, will check it out after hearing these conflicting opinions :)

Forgot about This Is England, that was great.

My film of last year is a tie between This is England and Control.

28 Weeks Later and Sunshine were also pretty good, as was Transformers.

I just looked - it says This is England(2006) released April 2007.

2006 and 2007 both seem like yesterday to me. Mind you, so does 1981!

Didn’t go & see much last year. But did like Curse of the Golden Flower, I know many people thought it was the low point in the trilogy. I felt it ended it quite nicely - not too over the top on the fight scenes, and a bit more on the backstabbing of the people in power.

The Simpsons was neither worth waiting for nor a huge dissapointment. It could have been way better or way worse. IT was entertaining enough though. I also enjoyed the new Futurama :D

Thinking about this I had a hard time thinking of what I’ve seen that came out in 07.
Looking at some of the other threads, hepled me out
I liked Hot Fuzz, Zodiac, the Simpsons and I got the Bourne Ultimatum but still haven’t gotten around to watching it. Nothing too special though.
I loved the final cut of Blade Runner, but I don’t really count that.

The best stuff I’ve watched this year have been TV shows … The Shield, Dexter and the Wire (which may be the best show I’ve ever watched. Shame this is the last season but I think they’re doing it the right way, they had a story to tell and they told it. So much better than the Sopranos but gets nowhere near the publicity) The Brotherhood is another one that has been creeping below the surface but is really strong.

Anyone looking for something good to watch I’d recommend picking up the DVDs for all of these shows, especially the Wire. Each season’s only 10-11 1hr episodes, and each season is a self contained story (or case) , but at the same time there’s continutity between the seasons.
