Who has heard Neil Play ?

#

Started by Muskeg (Yes, It's me.)

If so, is he any good ?

It would be simply WRONG if he was average as Fyfe and Graham were both outstanding drummers and percussionists.

He played at Carvicais Festival — who went to that?

Someone who has heard the album says that his drumming is “crisp”. If that helps :-)

I hate when people say Chad Smith of the chilis is ” solid “.

That basically means he plods along and hardly ever does anything remotely difficult.

I like the sound of that!

Fyfe’s drumming used to be “crisp” and precise.

Title: I’ve heard the album…

Hey everyone,

Not gonna be much help as I’m dreadfully hungover this morning.

Anyway, here goes…

Had Martin and his wife round for dinner last Friday and sweetheart that he is, he brought the album cos I bugged him to…at least a burned CD copy of it as the master hadn’t arrived. Now before everyone goes and pumps me (ahem) for loads of information, I was listening to the album with half an ear; the other half was on entertaining my very entertaining guests. :-)

Have to say though that it’s CLASSIC Therapy? The first track (Hey Satan…You Rock) is rip-roaring…it’s a speeding singsong with Andy on form. I can remember really bopping around to it and the lyrics “Cos she’s a fox” …sounded great to me. I’m surprised it’s not the single, actually, but what do I know?

The rest is quintessential high-energy, loud guitared RAWK (*makes sign of the devil*), per usual. Martin said Hey Satan was the calmest of the lot and from I heard, he’s right. It’s gonna be a stormer. All they need now is some decent PR and away we go.

So forget any fears that T?’s released something off form, this is gonna be GREAT. I’d liken it to Troublegum actually…but with the extra skill and humour that the extra few years has brought them. If that makes any sense.

What else?

Oh, Neil…Even though he’s short and wears button down collared shirts, the guy sounds wicked. He’s a cross between Fyfe and Graham but more Fyfe and a nice guy to boot. He looked a little scared when we first met at the Church of Noise disco, but then I would have with Michael and Andy being in the state they were. :-)

His sound is quite crisp (the word I believe used elsewhere). I always thought that while Graham, bless, was a good drummer, his sound was a bit more muddled and I think Neil brings a really nice return to the old T? sound because you can actually HEAR the drums…

Anyway, methinks you’ll love it. But I’m sorry Martin didn’t accidentally forget the disc, so I could hear it properly.

Right. My temples are throbbing so I must go.

xVM

Mikala, thanks for that.

One out of one review gives it a thumbs up - that’s a good start! 100%

VERY cool to hear about Neil’s playing style. I’ve been yearning for a more traditional (ie Fyfe-esque) Therapy? drum sound.

By the way, how do you know Martin and Kim? It’s a shame he didn’t leave you the disk, but I guess he couldn’t risk it getting out to the public before the release date.

Cheers :-)

Title: Yo…

You’re very welcome Alan… I wish I’d been able to sit with the disc and really give it a good listen (so I could report back) but alas, it’s hard to cook and get wankered AND be subjective about your mates’ band. :-)

I’ve know the band for 11 years now; I used to hang out with them in Toronto and our friendship has blossomed like the love of a young virgin for her male English professor. Or something. ;-) Anyway, I tend to see Martin and his lovely lady as regularly as possible with our bizzeee lives.

I’d post more often and spill more dirt but as they’re my mates, I don’t wanna be too much of a blabbermouth and spill anything that they don’t want spilling…

Mind you, they’re all so approachable and will usually answer anything that needs answering, so it’s never really be a problem for most, I reckon.

And yeah, the album is gonna be fab. We must all rally ‘round for the Big Rock.

Very promising. And indeed heavier than the last albums, that`s my first impression from this. Yay.

But how long do we have to wait till it`s released? I hope it`s not gonna be like it was when shameless came out. (february finished, but released in september if I remember right.)

Denim Demon,

First I record the Livestream with the program ‘Totalrecorder’, this makes an .wav file.
Then I convert the .wav into .mp3 with the program ‘CDex’.
That’s all
