Though, to continue an earlier rant, I was tricked into lending my housemate £1.99 today and you know what he did with it? He bought the best of effing Simon and Garfunkel

I love ‘The Sound of Silence’, it’s a classic in my book. Maybe that’s why you hate Simon and Garfunkel - you are still rebelling :p
PS You shouldn’t have lent him anything. It was entirely his fault that I hit myself in the face with a chair last night
Back on topic. I kind of agree with the Auto Surgeon - it’s good to be able to appreciate old and new stuff, but I must confess that it really fucks me off when I go to see an ‘old’ band and the venue is full of kids! I know it’s hypocritical, and I appreciate that musicians have to target themselves at younger audiences, but I still can’t stand it.

I dont see anyrthing wrong with Bryan Adams, the way I see it, its not HIS fault that song was at number 1 for so long. If it went to number 16 and then dissapeared, nobody would hate him as much as they do. In My Opinion, he writes great rock and roll songs, can certainly sing and has a great band. Keith Scott is an excellent guitarist and Mickey Curry is a great drummer. :)
Waking up the neighbours, 18 til i die, On a Day like Today and Room Service are all really good rock and roll albums, that I love playing along to.

It just reminds you of your own mortality, that’s all: everyone else your age is dead. :p
Seriously, I still don’t get just what it is that fucks you off. Are you fucked off by the band for allowing younger fans to their gigs? Or is it that you can’t stand young fans who have the audacity to have the same good/bad (delete as appropriate) taste in music as you? :s

it used to piss me off in a big way when i’d score tickets to see the likes of Maiden or when i went to see motorhead..
there was a bunch of 12 year old looking kids..
who all looked lost when lemmy and Co were rocking out..
Ace of Spades came on.. they’re bopping along like they were at a concert..(completly different to a gig!!!)
song finished.. they sat back down..looking lost ..again!!
i kind of commend them for going to see older bands play..
but not when it’s for one song.. then sitting.. SITTING!!… with a face like a smacked arse…
at least when i was a 12 year old (:sob:..so long ago!!) going to gigs of older bands i knew every song and actually got made to sit down by security!!
bloody spoiley game city hall security..

For the record - I do think that women can do rock / metal etc. just as good as men, as to avoid any confusion. It’s just that McQueen are in fact absolute shite. I know I’m repeating myself, but I can not stress enough just how shite they are.

Neither of those - it’s about the atmosphere. When you grow up with a band and see them over many years there’s a kind of dynamic between the band and the audience that grows and develops. It’s not as though a few kids turn up each time / year and become part of that whole dynamic, it’s that the band will suddenly release an album or do something that gets noticed by a lot of kids at the same time, and so one day you’ll go to a gig and it’s just fucking horrible. All the kids crowd down to the front and think they own the place and the band and “by the way what the fuck are you doing here at your age? Shouldn’t you be at home with your pipe/knitting? and I haven’t got a clue what the band are about politically but I really like the 2 songs that I have actually heard”.
FUCK OFF!!!!

Not with the same band, no - but it only has to happen once with any given band and the experience is fucked from that point and for all eternity :( And you never know when it’s going to happen, or with which bands. One day you’ll probably go to a T? gig and it will be full of 6 year olds looking daggers at you for having the nerve to be there. And you’ll want to kill them.

I jest, of course. Do agree with comment about the Manics though. Had a very similar experience as Dennis. Met some people at a Manics gig on that tour, people who I know for a fact own at least one Boyzone cd.
BTW, I hate Boyzone.

Apart from that, what do you hat about Bryan Adams, like I said before, it wasnt HIS fault people bought that single in their billions. Just because he has a hit record is not reason enough to HATE him.
I wont accept answers like ” smug twat ” or ” meh…he’s just a c*** ” - i want hard evidence please.
p.s. Bon Jovi, on the other hand IS a smug twat :p

Dennis wrote:
ok, here’s why I don’t like him:
He is resolutely uncool. he just doesn’t look like a rock star. None of that matters if the music is good, of course, but…
It ain’t.
His “rock” numbers are totally unconvincing. It’s like your dad dancing at a wedding - just …not rock n roll at all. Everywhere you go the kids wanna rock eh? Everywhere you go, Bryan, the middle-aged housewives wanna faux-rock, you mean, surely…?
His “romantic” numbers…well gawdelpus if these say anything to anyone about the true experience of love. He is a typical “love song” balladeer - all forced emotion and the lasting feeling that the song hasn’t been written from any personal experience, good or bad. He’s just one of these “oh better write another love song” kind of singer. He’s no different to Cliff Richard in that respect, who’s been single for as long as anyone can remember and yet he still writes love songs or songs about splitting up. WHO are you singing about Cliff?!
Add to that the flat, uninspired musicians Adams works with, the cloying lyrics and the fact that so many of his songs are in fact the same song slightly rewritten just to wring a few more Canadian dollars out of them, then I really cannot see what is to like about the guy, other than the fact that I am sure he’s a smashing guy in real life and I’d be happy to sit down and have a pint with him. He can pay though. He’s loaded.
Sorry to rant, but you did ask!
