Kiss are utter, utter, utter shite…. Motorhead as usual will be insultingly low on the bill, no doubt.

The problem with Download is that there just aren’t enough Metal/ Rock bands that are popular enough to headline to fill a three day bill year-in-year-out without using the same bands each time. I mean, I reckon if you conducted a poll each year, people would vote for Metallica, Iron Maiden, Slayer, AcDc…etc.. In a way it is good cos it means these bands have longevity but on the other hand you either make Download the Annual Metallica Fest or you end up with shit like Kiss headlining… *pukes*

But the Offspring? they haven’t released a good record since 1994…

They should just get Tenacious D to headline, they can play tribute over and over for an hour and a half…

went to download last year, can honestly say it was my worst festival experience ever. ran by idiots it seemed. noone knew what they were doing, the stewards were not allowing you to walk down pathways so you had to go out of your way, and the damn place is next to an airport so you cant even get 2 hours sleep ready for the next day! not even when you pass out i found!
id really only go for a day, but my baby is due any time round then, so i may have to give kiss a miss!

Ditto. I went for one day once and will never go again. Worst organised event I have ever been to, by a long way.

Piss poor.

The only other festival that I’ve been to as badly organised as Download was when they did the Ozzfest at Donnington several years ago…

Its put me off going to festivals, the weekend ended up being more of a grind than fun - as well as poorly trained staff & seriously overpricing (i mean you expect to get ripped off at a festival - but they really managed to push out the boat here!!!).

Anyone go to the one where 65,000 people all had to get into the campsite through 1 gate and had to queue for 8 hrs holding all your camping stuff in the thursday afternoon sun? that was a barrel load of laughs! cunts!

I find that festivals nowadays are all pretty much the same, and to ditto some earlier comments, I don’t think I have ever heard such a shite headline line up!!!

I have a mate who works with the stage crew at Download every year, and even he says that the people organising it couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery!!

My mate went to D’Load last year and said it was like a budget version of a festival - no bands had any backdrops and it was shit. i went the year before and din’t enjoy it either and it put me right off fests. Download is crap, i’m going to try Leeds. Who wants to see fucking Kiss for shit’s sake?? The whole bill so far looks like 80’s rock cabaret - what self respecting modern metal fan would pay to go to this?? (unless T? were there, obviously!)

Imagine what my rant will be like when they announce fuckin Dream Theater and Yngwie Malmsteen! I’m off to take a pill!

ps - are Lostprophets still going? Please can someone make them die out along with all those other melodic pop bands like FFAF. Surely their time must be up by now?

Apart from Metallica - there aren’t any bands from the 90’s era that have lasted to take the place of the big Headlining type bands.

In the 80’s and 90’s you had the likes of Aerosmith, Guns N Roses, Iron Maiden, fucking Whitesnake… all the bands that could have gone on to replace them have all died / split / gone crap / disappeared into obscurity… Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Sepultura, Korn, Faith No More…

All those bands could have gone on to be bigger… So now what are we left with? either the dinosaur rock of Kiss or the 3 album hype of My Chemical Romance?

The old bands dont appeal to the kids, and the new bands dont have the material to play the 2.5 hr closing sets of Donnington… plus they dont bring out the big hairy bikers that drink non stop for 18hrs a day and keeping the festival organisers in big ££££££

Basically - situation is fucked.

The European festivals look miles better these days - but a lot of those seem to be made up of the bands from the 90’s that managed to survive - i.e. Therapy? do quite well on the Euro lineups dont they?

Agreed. There really is no need for a three day, mutliple stage Metal festival.

Better just have a Rock-heavy but more general festival, such as the Reading/ Leeds weekend, so Metallica and Slayer get to play there but so do other styles of band.

An old style Donnington Monsters of Rock with 2 stages where even the lower on the bill bands were pretty decent. Remember Donnington 94??? Pantera, Therapy?, Sepultura!!! :-)~

Although, Extreme and Aerosmith were headliners that year!! :(

ah… the good old days. You could go out in the afternoon and actually see a quality band like baby chaos who had good bounce along festival fun songs, even if you weren’t all that familiar with them.

Remember when they started making donington a 3 dayer they had garbage, jj72, and feeder on the friday… and everyone fucked off to the tents! (although i watched feeder and had a mighty fine time and was singing so loudly people were laughing at me!)

Last time I got to see Therapy? was download festival 2005 when they headlined the small tent - rocking show - boys - couldnt even get a t-shirt sold.

Therapy dont seem to come up north to often now. Got swindled out of £130 (4 tickets) for a gig at Newcastle Racecourse while back, went the promoter went bust - only wanted to go and see therapy and didnt get any ticket money back.

Would be nice to see you back in Newcastle someday. We have the Carling Academdy 2 just right for a party with our friends from T.
