Hurrah! Yes, definitely. Diamonds and Gold is a particularly great track, too.

Bone Machine is also an excellent album, too, with a more ‘modern’ sound.

Primus- Antipop

amazing production, great tunes, right amount of heaviness, unbelievable bass playing (of course), Tom Waits is on it. Not a flaw. Plus, it destroyed Nu metal (Primus style) before Nu Metal even existed. That’s gotta be impressive?

Kerbdog - Kerbdog. Debut album from this fantastic band. I still listen to it regularly and never get fed up off it after all these years. No longer available to buy, but kerbdog.com have it uploaded on their site. Worth a listen!

Whipping Boy - Heartworm. Severely under appreciated album. Intelligent, emotional and downright excellent.

Anthrax - Attack of the Killer Bs. Compilation of rareties that shouldn’t work as an album, but does. Includes ‘Bring the Noise’ with Public Enemy.

Afghan Whigs - Gentlemen. Any of the Whigs last three albums (Gentlemen, Black Love and 1965) could be called essential, but this is my favourite. Los huevos del perro (the dogs bollocks).

Faith No More - King For A Day Fool For A Lifetime. I love all of FNM’s albums, but this one edges it (just) over the others. And please, don’t look at me, I’m ugly in the morning.

Alice In Chains - Dirt. Sludgy, grimey, grungey, in short, a classic.

So many…here’s a few of my all time favorites.

1. Kiss Double Platinum- Best of their classic era stuff. Got it when I was in Kindergarten or 1st grade (79-80). Ace Frehley was my hero when I was little, and the reason I wanted to play guitar.

2. AC/DC- Back in Black- do I really need to explain

3. Iron Maiden-Powerslave- maiden at it’s best, and it’s been all downhill from there (even though they still put out some great albums afterwards, just not as good)

4. Megadeth- Peace Sells- Most angry album I ever heard (when it came out anyway). The speed and agression of punk, but with virtuoso musicality. The bass line from Peace Sells is one of the greatest ever.

5. Metallica- Master of Puppets. I think enoughs been said on this one.

6. Nirvana- Nevermind metal was getting stale (except for some of the thrash/speed metal bands). Opened me up to wider varieties of music.

7. Therapy?- Troublegum…like I need to explain that one here :)

8. Pennywise- About Time. Best So.Cal Hardcore of the 90’s. Fletcher Dragge delivers some awesome riffs at 100mph. Peaceful Day, Killing Time, Perfect People, Same Old Story, Try, great stuff!

I could go on but I’m too lazy ;)

1) metallica - master of puppets - i can’t really add any more except to say that leper messiah has stolen all the riffs and no one else can have them back :)

2) trouble - manic frustration - firstly they just rock and does any one else do the dual guitar thing better? even maiden and priest come up short against these guys and that says a lot!! i also love the lyrics which work so well on different levels. as an atheist i find most religious band too preachy but these guys balance it so well you can read however much you want to into their lyrics

3) iron maiden - the number of the beast - yes an obvious choice but let’s face it every one of these tracks is a bone fide metal classic and hallowed be thy name is up there in my top two songs ever written (the other being screamager btw :D )

4) slayer - decade of aggression - not sure if i’m allowed a live album in here as it seems like a bit of a cheat but this is how all live albums should be ( and live shows having seen them a couple of times). minimal in between song crap,no wanky solos and all the mistakes left in. also the total left/right split between the two guitars is just awesome (it’ll blow your head clean off on a decent set of headphones :) ) and the feedback…mmmmm i doubt jim marshall ever had that in mind when he started making amps :D

5) nailbomb - point blank - i was a big fan of fudge tunnel and sepultura so when i heard alex and max had formed a side project i had to leg it to the toilet so as not to embarass myself in public. and with good reason. i find most ‘extreme’ or ‘hardcore’ bands try too hard to be something they’re not. this in my eyes is the real deal. just two guys coming from different directions both musically and socially but with one aim - to put some more business in the way of hearing aid companies. you just cannot listen to this album without turning it up. and then up again. and then you realise that your amp is better than your speakers and it all goes bear shaped (yes i did mean bear!)

anyway those are my top 5 non T? albums

hope i may have inspired someone to get one or two as some of you guys have inspired me to try a couple of new flavours

That is SUCH a good album. Saw them live last week - that frontman is a bit of a nut.

Anyway, I’ll go for The Jesus And Mary Chain - Psychocandy. It’s just perfect 60s girl pop / beach boys tunes buried beneath a wall of screeching feedback, with interchangable lyrics about drugs, girls, speed, sex, and boredom.

Paradise Lost - Draconian Times

In 1995 released great metal album, 12 great songs. Beautiful melodies, killer guitar riffs, drumming is pretty good and Nick’s voice is awesome. Lyrically this album is very depressive, but which PL album isn’t. The Last Time was a big time hit in mid of 90’s but, yet a strong track but perhaps not the best. The cover art is very beautiful. A must have record!

Babylon Whores - King Fear

2000, year of the fear. Opener “Errata Stigmata” tells you to love Satan, yeah right. If I ever wanted to hear the news before the end of the world, I’d tune in “Radio Werewolf”. “Veritas” plays tribute to finnish band Mana Mana’s ex-singer Jouni Mömmö. The whole record is pure Death Rock as the band itself labeled themselves. If you could smell the sound, it would smell of corpses being rotting in hell.

The lyrics made by Ike Vil are weird: Oh hang me high / Upon that tree / For all the secrets to find me / As
ravens’ claws / As eagles’ bills / As Wotan’s eyes upon the hills / Oh ten I
have of fingers fine / For all the evil’s work in the night / Oh baby I will
grow for you from a tree / Burning with glory (taken from the song “Hand Of Glory”)

Ike takes care of all vocalisation and he’s style is more like Danzig’s when he was still in Misfits but yet Ike’s voice is twisted. I can’t discribe it.

The guitars are strong and they are building guitarwalls (remembering me of Mana Mana, listen to “Veritas”) and the whole band is playing very well together.

After King Fear they released only one album, Death of the west and then they broke the lines. But King Fear is still sitting on it’s throne, crowned and spreading the glorious Death Rock!

The only thing I know of Ike is that he’s translating books into finnish language and works for Like. He translated “Turn off Your Mind – Mystic Sixties and the Dark Side of the Age of Aquarius” which is originally been written by Gary Valentine Lachman. In Finland the book is named “Tajunnan alkemistit”.

3/5 former Babylon Whores players are now playing in a band “Outcast Crew”. Ike also wrote “Pride Of The Damned” for the band.

Yes, he also translated Gavin Baddeley : Goth Chic - Johdatus pimeän puolen estetiikkaan.

I think I’m going to buy “Tajunnan alkemistit” some day. I really like that book. There’s a theory (there are many other theories too) that Jesus was a fly agaric (a poisonous mushroom amanita muscaria) and his disciples were eating him to get closer to the God. And there’s a theory of the superhuman race and eveything else.
