Legends, yes. Money grabbing gits, definately.

How many best-of comps is that now? 3 or 4? That’s not including the numerous live albums they have, which basically serve as best-of’s anyway.

I know the first 3 listens are free, but c’mon, the die-hards and collectors will buy this for their collection in droves. As for this release being “for the kids” - if they’re not going to buy one of their other best-ofs, why will they buy this?

Well,

Fresh packaging - fresh approach, make it look modern to appeal to the kiddies. Never heard of Marketing, eh? ;)

One thing I can certainly confirm is that this band never stops winning over new fans, some of them people who initially even bashed the band.

Up the Irons!!!

Not to mention the inevitable multiformat/multi edition of every release, and all the records they’ve rereleased!

The Maiden money-making machine wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t come up with shit like this: “”We wanted to give the kids of today a fair chance of hearing the music as we would have first heard and experienced it in our day when checking it out in a record shop — top quality sound, in their own time and in an environment of their own choosing so they are able to absorb the depth and worth of the music and lyrics that make Iron Maiden the phenomenon they are.”

Bollocks mate, you just want another Porsche in your garage!

Well, in fairness, the sound quality of the tracks is probably better than my “Best of the Beast” CD which I bought about 8 years ago. And the tracklisting is geared specifically at this tour. How many times have I been to a gig with a newcomer only to get asked for a copy of all the tracks that they just played in the set - zillions. I myself wouldn’t have minded something like that also for bands that I had just witnessed live, yet never heard of prior ot that.

I know where you guys are coming from, but hey, if you don’t like it, don’t buy it.

At least they are not selling Maiden Credit Cards, bottles of wine etc.

The sound quality of an mp3 can only be better than a CD if your CD is damaged - even at the highest bitrate (320 kbps), mp3 is a compressed, lossy format!

I have heard that argument many times, but I quite honestly don’t recognize much difference in the music which I transferred to my MP3 player via CD or file to be honest. You would need to be listening to the music at a crazy volume to even notice.

If you look at the recent new NIN download, it was offerred at CD quality - so the times are changing.

At least the band stands behind this compilation which despite comments above can not be viewed as a full “best of” retrospective of Maiden’s career - it only supports the current tour which makes perfect sense to me. Available as download coz guess what? Kids download more than they buy nowadays. The reason for all of the “Best of” compilations also in many cases had to do with the bands record labels - I remember a compilation for their American label where the band even stated that they were not really interested in it.

Up the Irons :)

You said the sound quality of the mp3s was probably better than your CD… which is absolutely impossible. That’s not an argument, that’s a fact :)

Actually just to chip in, it’s not technically impossible, it’s just very unlikely. ;) Depends on the quality of the equipment you use to create the cd/transfer the audio, etc.

I am not arguing that the quality of an MP3 is better than CD (please point out where I wrote that) - I wrote the sound quality on this new compilation is probably an improvement over a CD compilation which is 8 years old - regardless of source. I do not notice a real difference in sound quality when listening to a CD or MP3 of the same song from the same album ;)

As the downloadable version of the album rather than the CD release was being discussed, I thought you were comparing that with your Best Of The Beast CD. I still don’t see why the tracks on the new CD would sound any different to the tracks on Best Of The Beast though…there’s no mention of them having been remastered or anything…

Don’t love Maiden as much as I used too , mainly because I rarely listen to metal anymore , grown out of it. But they will always have a special part of my childhood and i’ll always love em. Gotta admit though I thought they were quite poor on the last tour , playing the whole new album I found really boring. I’d be lying if I said I don’t want to see them in twhicenham though.

As for another best of i’m not too fussed , I won’t buy it unless I can get it in a sale in a year or so :P.

Anyone got the Live After Death dvd yet ? Hows the documentary thing? The last one was great.

i’ve always said i’m not a massive maiden fan but they’re a band i’d rather go and see live than alot of my favorite bands.

every recording ive seen of a maiden show looks fucking amazing.

I’m not quite sure what you’re all talking about with maiden but the fact is they have always been careerists in it for the money so fair play to them.

The actual Live After Death part is great, as you’d expect, but the documentary is nothing special. The footage of them at the original Rock In Rio is interesting but it is a very poor quality recording, and that’s probably the highlight of the extras, so I wouldn’t recommend buying it specifically for the documentary. Buy it for Disc 1, though!

However, the fact that they’re releaseing a comp album of their 80’s output stinks somewhat. But, if its got rare tracks on (b sides and what have you), I’ll change my mind, but not to fussed on it.
