Best Intro To A Song

Started by Muskeg (Yes, It's me.) in Other Bands & Artists

What song do you feel kicks off in the greatest way ?

I thought of this thread after constantly playing Iron Tusk by Mastodon - that drum roll is OUTSTANDING.

Also I am quite partial to F—-ing in the Bushes by oasis. CLANG !! massive drum beat..

I realise those are both drum intros…

Sad But True is an awesome intro - the way the guitars are detuned a whole tone to D, but the song doesnt start on the open D, it starts in G, so when the main riff kicks in ( after that legendary drum fill ) you get this masive riff in low D - genius !

More when I can think of any.

Andy Cairns’ voice is perfect for that bit.

Many ministry songs have great starts.

It sounds a bit pansy on the album, but try and check out a live version from the Illosaarirock Festival in 1997 when they used it to open their set and it sounded massive. Swirling feedback loops and cymbal crashing = a good intro in my book!

And the bassline at the start of innocent x

the drums at the start of Skiining Pit

but I must say live i particularly like the intro of sprung.

Big fan of the long , bombastic intros. Led Zeppelin are the kings of great intros imo and at a first thought special kudos to Meat Loaf’s Bat Out of Hell and Pink Floyd’s Shine On You Crazy Diamond.
Today by Smashing Pumpkins is not too bad as is Sunshine of Your Love by Cream , it just rocks.

To pick one it has that spoken intro from the theme to The A Team !

I dont think that these ones got something I would call an intro. although these were some of my favorite songs all time. Stop it you are killing me would be maybe a better example for a song with an intro.

Cemetary Gates off the same album is better. It’s about 2 minutes long if you count until the main riff kicks in. Mild and pleasant strumming with Anselmo over the top of it in places which escalates into a huge power crescendo and a colossal riff that’s heavier than osmium.
